Everyone just reversed their normal places on the stage, to see if they sounded better that way. Michele |

Or they are pictures from a parallel universe, where they all stayed married and happy, raised healthy children, did no drugs and never abused alcohol.
It's a beautiful place -- but the music and concerts aren't quite as exciting as they were here. Michele Last edited by michelej1; 05-05-2008 at 01:31 PM.. |

Well this is the story I've been waiting to tell for awhile now. I can remember these 2 days, May 9&10 1980 like they were yesterday. First, a bit of a back story. I had first heard Fleetwood Mac in the summer of 1977 right around the 4th of July at the age of 6. Gold Dust woman came on the radio, and I made a very deep spiritual connection to this music immidieately. My mother bought Rumours for me for Christmas in 1977, and I wore it out listening to it in less than 6 months. Then when Tusk came out I was even more excited because it was 2 records instead of one. I remember listening to that just like Rumours and pretty much wearing it out in a short period of time. So anyway, April of 1980 rolls around, and I read a full page ad for the Met Center shows in the Minneapolis Tribune and I right away rudh to my mother shrieking about how my favorite band is coming to town. Mind you I'm a 9 year old boy at this time. My mother would not allow me to go to these concerts. She's no prude by any stretch, but knowing some of the stuff that went on at concerts back in those days, she wasnt going to let her young son be exposed to that. I begged and pleaded with her for 4 weeks to let me go but she wouldnt budge. So when Friday May 9, 1980 rolled around, I pretty much barricaded myself in my room, drew the shades, and did nothing for 2 days but listen to my Fleetwood Mac records in protest of my mothers refusal to let me go. Finally on Sunday morning, I rejoined the living and came out of my room. I wasnt even hungry to eat I was so upset. I still didnt speak to mom for 3 days after that because I was so upset. Years later, this is something my mother would point to when she would try to understand the intense passion I have for their music. I know now she meant well, but damn I still to this day wish I couldve gone! That's pretty much it. I feel very fortunate becasue I've made up for not having been able to go to those shows back then by being able to have the experiences I've had the last 11 years, so it all worked out in the end, I just had to wait 20 years. Good things come to those who wait, right?
