Kris and I are going to drive around eastern Canada for 9 days. Any suggestions of attractions to see? Places to eat? Where to shop? We will be stopping in Quebec City, Montreal, Ottawa, and Toronto. Oh, and Niagra Falls as well.....We are wondering about hidden gem towns and off-the-beaten path places.
Thanks.

I read French really well......can't speak it that good, though. Plus, Kris is a French professor and Masters student in French.

how weird, I was just looking at this thread and was going to bump it cause no one helped you out.
Anyway, maybe what they say about Canadians is true... Can't you guys just find all the really cool stuff you need online? Clearly, no one here will help. JK. Canada is pretty big, maybe they don't live in the right places. However, I've heard from 2 very different people that they have vacationed in Nova Scotia, and is not to be missed. Then I asked them why, cause it is cold and I hate that, and it seemed so random. They went on and on about the wondrous beauty and coolness, so then I visited a website about Nova Scotia, and it did look hella cool. So. There. I tried to help. ![]()

Well, since you don't want to visit me... There's always Yonge Street in Toronto.
Everything is there, seriously. It's miles f*ckin' long.Niagara Falls? I haven't been there in ages, but erm, the falls would be a good place to start. Check out the Minolta and Skylon Towers. The Skylon has a revolving dining room. http://www.skylon.com/I can't remember any other places to eat, though, so just check out their tourist site. http://www.infoniagara.com/ Ooh, and you should go on the Maid of the Mist ferry (I think it's a ferry) ride, if you're not averse to that kinda thing. It's so fun. Some people don't like boating, though. ![]() I can't think of anything out of the way, off the beaten path type places. If the Wax Museum and IMAX are still there in N.Falls, check that out. lol. I think they might've closed them, though. Oh, and buy their fudge at the Fudge Factory. |

Maybe you should go over the Falls in a barrel. You'd be my hero for life.

I’ll try and help you with a few suggestions. I know Newfoundland best but that’s probably too far North for your trip. For something tranquil, it’s pretty nice around 1000 islands. If you want a couple of days to chill out in a really beautiful place – its worth a visit. Some of the smaller hotels are really nice and would make for a very romantic break! If you’re driving between Ottawa and Toronto then you could go via Algonquin (spelling may be wrong). It’s a national park and beautiful to drive through and has an art gallery in the middle of it as I remember. In Montreal, the jazz clubs are an obvious choice. If you like jazz I can send you some specific suggestions. I saw Cassandra Wilson in Montreal, one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to. I’ll never forget her version of Neil Young’s Harvest Moon. In Ottawa and the local area there is loads of white water rafting. Terrifying but don’t miss it! And finally Niagra. You have to go but parts of it are horribly commercialised. But if you get chance go to Niagra on the Lake – there are a number of wineries near there. Anyway the Canadians may be able to suggest a few more things. I feel in the mood for some Joni Mitchell now……….... Stew ps Quebec City is wonderful too. Last edited by Stew_Matthews; 03-21-2007 at 07:44 AM.. |

Maid of the Mist is cool (the boat takes you right to the foot of the falls) and the Cave of the Winds tour you can walk down wooden stairs to their base. You'll get very wet on either adventure, but it's tons of fun. ![]() |
