Aye, but from one Lindsey fan who actually agrees with your take on the "Here Comes the Sun" topic...I am eagerly awaiting your new thoughts on the album that I've still not heard as of yet...

Well, if it is too early to rank it for ChiliD, I agree. I still can't rank it. It's growing on me, I take time to feel it through, because this album is-again-unlike anything he has done before. Maybe some tracks remind me of earlier released ones, but as a whole I am still wrestling with the actual feel of the album. It hits me like a train, It's light and heavy at the same time, the productional sheen is something that I have to give a place yet. A fact is: this man learned me how to listen to, and be open towards, the edges of popmusic, and now, 27 years after Tusk, he does it again: testing the borders of my taste. Only therefore I can already say it is a masterpiece in my world.

And Shut Us Down, especially after seeing the video, I rank as the most gorgeous track the man has ever recorded. Ever

What Dylan cover? I think I missed that.

I have no idea about the tuning. And, to be honest, I don't really care, since I have NO plans to sit down and try to learn the song (or any of his new songs). That's Lindsey's thing, I have my own thing...#1 one of which isn't to copy his.
It's edited down so it is and the mix is a bit different.

That's fair enough, I didn't know you didn't play his stuff.
Anyone else know?

Ah... Haven't heard that sadly. Don't think the delux version was available when I got my SYW, since that was only at the start of this year.

EDIT: AH, it was apparently. I must have missed it at the time.

"Love Minus Zero/No Limit" on the limited edition 2 disc version of SYW that also had Stevie's "Not Make Believe" and a couple of live things from the AOL sessions.

EDIT: what they said (since I obviously was asleep at the switch on the response to that...Damn this having to work for a living thing.

I'm interested to hear the differences in the versions of all three of the GOS tunes on this new album...I haven't really noticed anything obvious about the UTS versions right off the bat, anyway.

I mean, yeah, some of his older Mac stuff I learned to play (back when I HAD to for the cover bands I was in)...and I did learn The Dance version of "Big Love"...out of curiosity, since it didn't LOOK all that difficult when I finally SAW him play it...and it really isn't if you have a decent command of the guitar going into it. But, for the last 25 years, I've basically tried to focus on finding and bringing out MY style instead of imitate someone else's. Problem is, I've kept finding my way into cover bands where the goal is to "Play It Exactly Like The Record". So, hopefully, I've gotten rid of those (for now anyway) and am focusing on situations where I can let MY style shine.

Its visually nice...not much extras. A small poster, and 2 tracks that didnt make the album: Love Minus Zero and Stevie's "Not Make Believe"...and then there was a live version of SYW and Peacekeeper from the AOL sessions.

I think the album is f*cking brilliant and I'm so happy Lindsey finally recorded an album that he wanted to make rather than an album that Warner Bros. wanted him to make.

It's masterful work and I think people will look back on it as a brave collection of songs - with songwriting that's right up there with Joni Mitchell and Bruce Springsteen.

Didnt he do that with Tusk? The man's got nothing to prove, anymore, as far as I'm concerned. But yes, I'm happy he does his own thing regardless of what the record company wants him to.

And, that he was assertive enough to tell WB to "stick it".

(but, I really think that there was some backroom bargaining done...that he'll quickly get the the "electric album", that he mentioned is in the works, ready for release in the Spring, on time, and catering to WB's wishes; if they'd let him release UTS as is).

DOR is more or less exactly the same (other than being a bit louder). Same for SGCYM. TTFTS got a bit of an overhaul though. If you A/B them it's easy enough to see what he's done.

I totally understand. I'm still at the stage when I'm "finding my feet" with the guitar, so I'm happy enough to play other peoples' stuff. I still try to do my own thing when I can by improving solos etc. Hopefully get into a band situation soon where I can do my own thing more. I'd write stuff occasionally, but I really need other people to bounce ideas off and find out what my style is like when playing with other people.

I would quite like it if they did, because that way we can be sure that we'll get it soon enough. Left to his own designs who knows how long it could be until it comes out?
