Stevie Nicks to perform benefit concert

Tuesday, 05 July 2005
Arizona Heart Foundation

Stevie Nicks
Thursday, August 4, 2005 at 7:30 PM
Dodge Theatre
Phoenix, AZ

Pre Sale July 7, 2005 - 10:00AM to July 8, 2005 - 5:00PM

Onsale July 9, 2005 - 10:00AM

Arizona’s own, Stevie Nicks will perform a special benefit concert on Thursday, August 4 at the Dodge Theatre. Proceeds from the concert, which is scheduled to begin at 7:30pm, will benefit the Arizona Heart Foundation Cardiovascular Research and Education Building. The building will be located on the Arizona Heart Hospital campus, 20th Street and Thomas Road, and will contain a state-of-the art lab which provides a venue for the development of new cardiovascular treatment technologies. Public space in the building will enable the foundation to provide health education programs for all ages

Stevie Nicks, currently on the road with her Gold Dust tour, will once again lend her support to the Arizona Heart Foundation (AHF). The organization is a choice charity of Nicks, whose parents have both undergone heart surgery. Stevie Nicks is expected to perform material spanning her outstanding career as a soloist and a member of Fleetwood Mac.

The generosity of Stevie Nicks and her many supportive fans from around the world have helped to bring this unique cardiovascular resource to Arizona residents and visitors. The building’s ground breaking will take place in late July with occupancy estimated for summer of 2006. The building will be dedicated to The Nicks family and will recognize the contributions of those who have joined the fight to eliminate heart disease, one of America’s most deadly chronic illnesses

Hmmm...does this mean there is no meet and greet package? There was nothing in the article about $1000 tickets; not even info on where to get more info!

If you look at the seating chart for this venue, there are 4 rows in the pit, and section 2 ect. starts with row 5. So my guess is that the seats in the pit would be for the donor tickets.

There will be donor seats available. I don't know how much they are this year though. As far as a Meet and Greet...I would not assume anything about that until something is released in a press release either by AHI or by Stevie's management. Things could be different this year with the entire event...one year she did the autographs and that was a mess. Then they started the group photos. I sort of laugh when they label the thing a "meet and greet" because I would not describe it as exactly "meeting" Stevie. She is overwhelmed by people and it usually crowded and hurried. I love and admire that she does the benefit gig and it is fantastic that she does the M and G because it brings in more money. I just feel for the fans who spend $1000 bucks and think they are going to actually talk to Stevie. Well, talk about anything more than "hi how are you?... stand here please, ok ...thanks for your support...next....".
It is an excellent cause and Stevie has such a loving, generous spirit. I certainly do not want to make it sound like the 1,000 dollar tickets are not important. You do get to go to the afterparty and have the photo taken. (wellthe photo at the last couple of AHI's) I just think it is important that fans know that Stevie is overwhelmed with fans around her, all of whom want her undivided attention and she just does not have the time or energy to personally converse with each of them.
It should be interesting to see how this one plays out..if she has any special guests, what she says during the show and if she actually talks about how she was motivated to do this one to honor her Dad.

Donor packages are available, and are still $1000. This year there will be no pre-party, just the after meet & greet. There WILL be friends there, for sure. They just don't have a clue who it will be at this point.

I agree that "meet & greet" is a bit of a misnomer as you don't actually have a lot of opportunity to talk to Stevie. All I do know is in 2003, I got to spend about 15-30 seconds talking one-on-one with Lindsey. Was it short? Yep. Was it worth it? YEP! I am thinking that because it is such short notice it may not be as crowded this year.

If anyone does decide you want the donor package, you have to call the AHI directly and pay by credit card. Geri is taking orders now. I got my tickets last night. The number is 602-266-2200. Ask for the Foundation. If Geri's not available, it will go directly to her voice mail. She is very good about returning calls.

That's an understatement!!

Took me several years to get over that awful experience.

It's good of you to post the caution. I hear that the post-concert party has at least become more organized. The 1998 one was a total disaster.

I went to the July 1998 AHI benefit. When they announced the package, which included a post-performance party with Stevie, I called AHI to see if Stevie would be signing autographs and that there would actually be an opportunity to meet her. That's because the wording was very vague--a post-performance party with Stevie could just mean that there would be a party and Stevie would show up for a few minutes and leave.

Which is precisely what happened! Oh, now I can laugh about it.

Anyway, given that my lifelong dream since I was about 7 is to meet Stevie, I scraped together the $$ and flew to Phoenix for the show. It was a great performance--she had sold out the entire basketball arena and was full of energy.

Following the show, I went to the party. The AHI folks didn't have a guest list and the restaurant became extremely crowded. I'm sure a lot of people crashed. Stevie showed up, sat at a table in a small room, signed about 6 autographs, got up, went to another room, made a speech about supporting AHI, went back to the small room, signed about 4 more autographs, got up, and left in her limo.

I never had a prayer of getting her autograph. Mick Fleetwood and Don Henley were class acts, sticking around to sign autographs for disappointed fans.

I tried to call Geri, head of AHI, just to have a conversation with her about my experience as a donor. I work for a non-profit and if a donor is unhappy with one of our events, we talk to them about it. That's just the basics of donor relations. She never even called me back, which I found to be very unprofessional.

It's just my experience, I know others have had really good ones at AHI events.

Okay, did Stevie deliberately leave knowing that people paid to meet and greet and get autographs from her? Because if so that is really tacky...

But of course if everything was up in the air and you guys didn't know what was going on, the same could be said for her. Maybe she didn't know she was supposed to have an autograph session with people?

I'm sorry you had that experience... I'm just trying to think of a logical explaination because I don't think Stevie would really want to snub any of her fans on purpose.

One year Stevie didn't stay, another year only she and Mick stayed even though Don, Lindsey and Sheryl were in the show. AHI doesn't always deliver at the M&G. Just so you know.

I was just going to post that. I went one year and there were 2 donation packages, $500 and $1,000. The $500 package included the aftershow party and "special gift" and the $1000 package was the same, but included a pre-show dinner (Stevie did not attend, but I'm not sure if any other friends did). The party was cool. Stevie, Lindsey, Chris Isaak and Lindsey were there, but they did not walk around and mingle. They waved at us from a balcony. Stevie came down to the floor during an auction for a motorcycle that had been painted in a "Stevie" theme and also had her face painted on it, but she was behind velvet ropes. I did get to meet her though.

P.S. the special gift was a candle holder from Tiffany's.

I don't hold Stevie responsible at all. The restaurant was extremely crowded and there was no way she could accomodate everyone.

Ultimately I hold myself responsible for spending so much money and not going in with lowered expectations. But AHI did let that party get out of control. If only a handful of people bought the expensive donor packages, then that's all that should have been at the party. Stevie probably would have been able to at least go around and say hello to everyone.

Glad the NicksFix once again got this information out in a timely and organized manner before anyone else.

John Kinney already knows about it - he can't post anything without Stevie's management's "blessing."
