I'm reading Elie Wiesel's Night, but I had to put it down today because it's just beyond devastating. And I get so angry when I remember that my Political science professor said that a small percentage of a American's still deny that the Holocaust happened.

Thought I'd revive this for a bit...

I just finished A Home At The End of The World by Michael Cunningham. Having mixed feelings about it. I'll have to reread, I guess.

Starting on Middlesex by Jeffery Eugenides now. It seems promising

I love this thread, I was just thinking about it. Last night I just got the third installment of the Anasazi mystery series I've been reading. This one is called "Bone Walker" ooo, *shiver* I love these authors. Apparently I like to read Archaeological Native American fiction.... *dork*. But at least the authors are archeologists, so the info is correct and all that. It's weird, they have this huuuuuuuge bibliography of research materials for a fiction work....

I LOVE Michael Cunningham. And that book was fabulous. Movie sucked major ass, though, because of the atrocity that is Colin Farrell.

...I hated Clare. Such a bitch. I've yet to see the movie. I know you detest Farrell, but I kinda like him so

Those books sound interesting, Amber. I kind of like historical fiction myself

yeah, I like it a lot. I'm always watching shows like that, too. If you do happen to pick one up ( ) I recommend one of the "People of the" books. (People of the Earth, People of the Fire, etc) they're better than the mysteries.
Sounds like I should check out this Michael Cunningham guy. I dunno, though, People of the Raven is coming out in paperback soon...

It's one of very few novels where I liked all of the characters; they were so well-written and fleshed out. The movie is worth seeing for Sissy Spacek and Robin Wright, but that's it. He was at his skanky worst. Couldn't act out of a paper bag. That blasted unibrow drives me to drink.

He wrote The Hours, which is a masterpiece. The movie butchered it like you wouldn't believe.

I've just finished Daughter Of The South by Eudora Welty, which was really beautiful.

It's a great book, but the friend who gave it to me, just made me notice I told the wrong title, the right one in English is The Optimist's daughter . I read it in Italian and thought for some reason the original title was different. Anyway, the leading characters, two very different women are really intriguing, and the description of the small city in the South evokes Capote's best stories. Ms. Welty deserved that Pulitzer.

Anyway, I'm reading The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood. I think it might just be a perfect book.

Middlesex is FANTASTIC. I loved it. I really like Eugenides.

I'm reading Lyndall Gordon's bio of T.S. Eliot, and re-reading "The End of the Affair" by Graham Greene for about the millionth time.

ETA: The Handmaid's Tale is fantastic. Chilling. I think I've read it a million and a half times.

I'm reading a book titled "How to Read a Book" by Mortimer Adler & Charles Van Doren, & another book titled "Ancient Israel" by Professor Orlinsky.

Soon, I will start on "Steamboat Gothic" by Frances Parkinson Keyes.
