Bill Gates is a good guy, he may be a dorky nerd, but your just jealour, I bet ya you wouldn;t have a problem being a dorky nerd if you were that rich.

Bill and Melinda have donated billions and billions to charity and although they live a good life seem very genuine people who have a good grounding in reality.

People here and elsewhere will never see it that way. All they can focus on is Microsoft's cut throat business techniques. I assert all or almost all businesses run themselves that way and almost all people would do the same if given the chance. But, Gates is a billionaire and they are close and easy marks I guess. I am not saying some and even many or mnost things MS did were good - they were not - but that does not negate the Gates' clearly philanthropic gestures. Sadly, most cannot separate the two

I agree with that statement. Being a business owner myself, I have learned I have to be more aggressive. Not only for myself and family but for our employees and their families. If I'm not aggressive then jobs are lost. Plain and simple.

with Microsoft or his billion's (Sorry, Monetary amounts ya have or materialism doesnt mean **** to me...Never had or will!!!), I just think he's a dork...Plain & simple

Yes, he contributes to charity...But big fat hairy deal when he contributes millions to a charity and then in turns snubs waitstaff of a resturant who are working for less than minimum wage by not leaving tips.

I agree the with tipping. I was a waitress for about 15 years making $2.25 per hour. It's a hard job trying to please everybody, but I enjoyed. I miss it.
I made good tips but also got stiffed by people who could afford to leave a decent tip. Tight asses!! I always said, everybody needs to wait tables once in their life, I mean a good busy day...and servers would be more appreciated.

when ya have a major family illness, Which saps all your life's saving, You learn to be less materialistic and more giving...So no matter how bad our finances are/were, We ALWAYS left a larger than expected tip for waitstaff.

It's called "karma"...

Right. I always tip well too, especially my hair stylist, gotta keep 'em motivated! Hehe. I guess my Mom influenced me because she once worked in a diner. She says to tip extra well at breakfast because everything is so cheap and they work their butts off with coffee refills and all.

Then we have alot in common Brian!! I cannot stand a materialistic person. Material things are not what matters to me. What matters to me is the goodness I feel in my heart when I give. I don't need to go tell the world I gave and did this wonderful thing. I just can't describe the feeling it gives you when you have helped someone in need.

Well, I would never call giving billions away to charity anything other than pure generosity

But, if he is stiffing waitstaff, which could be a wive's tale, that is horible and he should be flogged

Finally, he is a total dork

Hey - two outta three ain't bad

if he gave every penny away personally...Doesn't change my opinion of this dork

Like I said, Ya can be the first trillionaire in the world, Doesnt mean your life is more precious and should be praised/adored/worshipped over anyone else who may be living on a minimum wage salary.

Thumbs down Who cares?

Why do we need to know how much celebrities are giving? That should be a private thing. They are bragging.

I think it is the thought that other people will see a famous person giving and will follow suit. It is a proven method of increasing donations. So, I think from that aspect it is a good thing they are sharing this very private matter.

I agree with you, strand. In this case I think it is important that some celebs be more public about giving since there is so much need and they can start a trend of giving.
