Actress makes donation to American Red Cross
Monday, January 3, 2005 Posted: 4:20 PM EST (2120 GMT)

NEW YORK (AP) -- Actress Sandra Bullock has donated $1 million to the American Red Cross to help relief efforts in countries affected by the deadly earthquake and tsunamis in southern Asia and eastern Africa.

Bullock, whose screen credits include "Miss Congeniality," "While You Were Sleeping" and "Speed," contacted the American Red Cross last week, the organization said Monday.

She also donated $1 million after the September 11 terror attacks.

"At this critical time, I am grateful to Sandra Bullock for once again demonstrating her leadership, compassion and belief in our global humanitarian mission," said American Red Cross President and Chief Executive Officer Marsha Evans in a statement. "Sandra continues to enable our lifesaving work and is a model for personal generosity."

Good for her.

Who knew she could still rack in a million and be able to give it away?

Good for Sandra. I also heard that Linkin Part set up a musician relief fund.

On a side note, I can't wait for Miss Congeniality 2.

even though everyone in the metal community HATES Linkin Park (Metal they're not...More like the current flavor of the weak!) ya have to give 'em credit for finally doin' something that I agree with.

As for Sandra Bullock, I can be bought for half a mill Ms.Bullock, So make the check out to Mrs.Deb j.

I'd like to see other celebrities kick in that much. Anyone hear of any other such donations? How 'bout Bill Gates? Has he contributed?

Just curious...

Well, that is the thing - not all of them make their contributions public According to most of the press reports, the American public's support from their own pockets has been huge. So, I tend to think many are donating. I cannot imagine the really rich are not donating as well.

And if anyone needs a car cd player or knows someone who does...I'm selling one on ebay...everything over $50 goes to the Red Cross Disaster Fund

Who knows, maybe some rich guy will buy it for 10,000 and 9,950 will go to the fund...wishful thinking? probably..

Buy a CD player and donate!

Yeah, I'm sure more celebs are contributing, I'd just like to hear about it, I guess!

I know - I think it makes others perhaps want to donate - I mean look at La Nicks with the Az Heart Institute. I would have never donated to them had I known about them - but she is associated with it - so I do. Same for her and other charities. I guess it is just a balancing test of privacy concerns and star power. In the end, I say even though it looks like bragging - go ahead and say it because good almost always comes from the exposure

Food for Thought!!!!

I wouldn't, I think it's tacky for celebrities to promote their donations as if it makes them exemplary specimens of humanity. It doesn't. Anyone with a heart and the available funds would do it, regardless of their celebrity.
