Lindsey covers album
OK, so everyone is talking about the disappearing act of the Joni Mitchell tribute album, for which Lindsey recorded Big Yellow Taxi. If you heard the clip, you could tell it was a brilliant rendition.
Lindsey has done several covers. So I propose he release an covers album, including some of the ones he's recorded and some that I will suggest. Won't you play along? My suggested covers album: What's So Funny About Peace, Love and Understanding (Nick Lowe) Mr. E's Beautiful Blues (The Eels, with E. dueting) The Singer Not the Song (Rolling Stones) Low (Cracker, with David Lowery dueting) Gotta Get Away (Rolling Stones) Have You Ever Seen the Rain (CCR) Hey Bulldog (The Beatles) Blue Monday (Fats Domino) When the Rainbow Comes (World Party) She Smiled Sweetly (Rolling Stones) Louie Louie (Kingsmen) Big Yellow Taxi (Joni Mitchell) Last Man on the Planet (CarneVaca, with Carne on backing vox) I'll Be Your Baby Tonight (Bob Dylan) |

He should stick to Stones, Dylan, & Fats Domino covers.

I shudder at the thought of turning Hey Bulldog into a Lindsey-style Travis-picking-on-speed number. Not at all what I had in mind. |

He could keep the riff and make it sound somewhat similar to the live version of "Not That Funny"...that's a possible sound I hear him doing with the song.

Does the new live version of Not That Funny incorporate the Travis picking thing?

I'm sorry, but Lindsey's take on Here Comes the Sun was the most intense, dramatic, heartfelt and personal cover I've ever heard - The only problem with it is that he didnt make some of the notes, so its sounds like he's gratuitously wailing, but really those vocals towards the end have an operatic sort of power to them and they blow me away each time.
I love it! A definite inclusion on Carne's covers album list.

Ashes to Ashes (David Bowie)
No Rain (Blind Melon) Kinder Murder, I Want You... and others by Elvis Costello some of the later songs by Los Lobos or the Latin Playboys (he really should do something with producer Mitchell Froom anyway) ...Skik, Doe Maar ... Twilight Zone (Golden Earring) Dreams (Fleetwood Mac) that's all I can think of uptil now. can I do the soprano backup vocals on Last Man on the Planet ?(even though I don't know the song ) Last edited by Mari; 02-06-2004 at 02:09 PM.. |
