Stevie Recording A New Album With Dave Stewart Producing In Nashville...

^Interesting. So that would suggest Stevie is still recording at her home. That's definitely the staircase at her house. I wonder how much was really completed in Nashville, and what ends need to be tied up back in LA?

I don't remember hearing that "the girls" were at Blackbird doing backing vocals so that's one of many loose ends they may be tying up at Stevie's house/studio...

i thought i'd bump the post above, being singled out numerous times as one of the naysayers - it nicely goes together with some thoughts people have expressed in this thread so far:

Every single Stevie Q & A event I went to the past couple years someone brought up doing/finishing the demos. She even mentioned in the recent BMI interviews that she was doing it because fans had brought it up. So there's that too. I suppose that it also fits in nicely with the time frame she currently has along with her record contract commitments. It's a win-win.

The only thing that bugs me is that it will be released in the middle of a Mac tour, which will give her little time to promote it. But as someone said on another thread, maybe just the exposure alone of the tour will help.

I'd be surprised if Steve actually recorded any vocals in Nashville - I reckon that only the instrumentation was laid down during that period. She has previously spoken about the great sound that was achieved when recording her vocals near the staircase of her home for the IYD album so perhaps that's the next part of the process?

They also could have done the music live in one studio with Stevie behind another booth on an isolated track and singing along, and they are redoing the vocals and dubbing them over. This is common and I think is how BellaDonna and Rumours were done.

There's an article on ultimate classic rock .com that says she will be finishing up the album in LA before the Mac goes on the road.

I agree. And frankly Stevie doesn't often get a full vocal from start to finish in a single take. A lot of them are compilations of bits from various takes. And she layers her vocals, adds harmonies and then all the girls' vocals etc. She doesn't need a big studio for that work nor to pay a bunch of musicians to hang around.

And each instrument is likely miced by itself as well. Then if they want to bring it up in the mix, eliminate it, or redub it altogether they can in post production and mixing. BUT i have a feeling this album will be most "done" already if she is already doing vocal overdubs.

Today I listened to In Your Dreams for the first time in a long time, all the way through, and I'm so impressed with Dave's treatment of Stevie's songs. Annabel Lee in particular - I love how true to the demo he stayed.

Also, Stevie's vocals are so good - the best vocals she's recorded, really, since The Other Side of the Mirror. Her Street Angel vocals are strong, but tired sounding. Her Shangri La vocals are a bit monotone overall, though there are some great moments in each track. Every track on In Your Dreams (except the dreary Soldier's Angel) features an enthusiastic vocal from Stevie, and shows her zeal and love for the album.

I feel really good about 24 Karat Gold, no matter the tracklisting, and my life-long love of Stevie's music feels very refreshed right now.

Right. This is called a "scratch vocal" and a lot of vocalists do this while the rest of the band is tracking each take. It helps them with the change ups ~ when a verse goes into the chorus, bridge, etc. If Stevie did anything in Nashville, it was probably this, as well as overseeing how the musicianship of each song took shape.

Nicely put!! I revisited IYD just the other night and thoroughly enjoyed it, though I still listen to it on a fairly regular basis. I really love how Dave produced each song very differently, so each one is unique and sounds fresh. Italian Summer always puts a smile on my face!
