Reissue of 25 Years: The Chain 4CD

I ordered mine. Said it was shipped today, but should take a spell to arrive.

The packaging is slimmed down into flat ''digipak'' ,which makes it look less of a 'big deal',the 4CD large box of the original was much more appealing. It was sealed so I couldn't open it to see,but the original thick booklet didn't look like it could fit into that slim packaging,I may be wrong,they squeeze all sorts into modern CD box deals nowadays!
Either way I see how the price reduction came about it's a different presentation. I paid huuuuge for this years ago in HMV,about $100 in US money ..!

..oh and obviously I didn't buy...it just seems like a(nother) tired cash-in,when they could have done something totally new like remastering the old gems,or the full albums,or a DVD etc. etc.

They pulled this stunt with the Very Best of '09..a decade old compilation rehashed for the UK/Europe. And now a two decades old box rolled out again....yawwwwwn

Mine arrived today, it is a thick book. I assume the same as the original one. Only problem i've found is that some of the print quality isnt that great. The discography pages at the back of the booklet are very faint indeed. Poor quality control, also the 1971 photo of the Welch/Kirwan era, not very clear.

Its not terrible, i've seen worse but it does need to be noted.

But for the price I wont grumble too much.

Well that is true.

A nice reissue program for the Then Play On to Heroes era is desperately needed.

I'm still glad to finally have the 4cd version though. I just wish the Mac back catalogue was given as much love and care as other major acts (Beatles, Pink Floyd, etc. etc)

scratch and sniff CD inserts. I forget the exact names
of the fragrances, but from memory...

If they're so intent on not giving us unreleased bonus tracks then they should at least remaster them as 2fers, the running times on most of those albums would accomodate that.

It's disappointing to hear about the cheesy digipak packaging. I actually like plastic jewel cases, hate that cardboard stuff, it's not like you can replace it later (instead of buying another one which I'm sure is the real reason they do this but hide behind the eco friendly line).

I bought this today because I didn't actually have lossless versions of the unreleased Lindsey songs and it was going cheap in Tesco. It's in one of those quad-CD jewel cases and there's a fairly hefty (by modern standards) booklet with all the names listed for each line-up as well as a bunch of pictures of each of them.

I'll probably give it a spin later tonight to hear the alternate versions (which don't match with the track listing yes?) and Stevie and Christine's unreleased tracks that I've never heard.

Yup. The cardboard sleeve is the same as the CD cover except for the back. On the sleeve it has the tracklist (also on the inside cover) and the jewel case has messages written from each of the Rumours band members.

Though I'd say if you already have a copy of the 4disc set there's probably zero in here that you don't already have and there's no point unless you need a replacement.
