Default John Lennon/Beatles Mega Thread - 16 new updates

Sacred Cows - The Beatles, 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band'

Everyone knows how important The Beatles are. Anyone who doesn’t recognise it is just being contrary. With that, everyone knows about the gigantic cultural impact of ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’.It turned music upside down. Rock musicians looked at it and thought, ‘Wow! There’s life beyond trad rock instruments! We can look beyond the blues as a blueprint!’ It ushered in a new way of thinking for bands – for the first time, they didn’t have to worry about recreating things live. The studio was an adventure playground to be explored. The world was the songwriter’s oyster.

Beatles Author Interview: Meet Dave Bedford
May 30, 2012
Author of the John Lennon Series, Jude Kessler, recently interviewed David Bedford,
author of Liddypool: Birthplace of The Beatles. Now she'd like you to... Meet dave Bedford

David Bedford, author of Liddypool: Birthplace of The Beatles, grew up in The Dingle, by the bottom of Madryn Street where Ringo was born, and attended St. Silas School from 1969, where Ringo had gone to school. He says to know about Ringo, you have to understand The Dingle, because it is nothing like Woolton, or Allerton.

On Music: Beatlemania Week – No. 1

We’re trying something new this week! Instead of a list, we’re going to try breaking a story into episodes. Think HBO mini-series style, only with posts on a blog. This week’s theme is the Beatles. All week, we’ll be looking at some interesting stories and factoids about specific songs. So let’s start episode #1 with “Dear Prudence.”

Trust me on this: The Beatles’ “Let It Be”
The acclaimed author hopes his daughter finds her own musical path but still felt proud when she loved the Beatles

How many more of these stories about dads playing music for their children? Every Father’s Day this story comes around! The kid agreeably listens to the beginning of the Goldberg Variations, and then repairs to his bedroom to play with blocks.

Beatle Ringo encourages us to save water

Ringo Starr formally opened the WaterAid garden at the Chelsea Flower Show and used the opportunity to take a swipe at the water companies who, in failing to fix leaks, allow water to go to waste. The former Beatle who has been associated with WaterAid since 2003 said: "In this country, we take water for granted - the water companies just let it leak away. It’s shameful. In many parts of the world one bucket of clean water can keep a family going for two days."

Default This thread is being deleted this sunday 6/3/2012

I wanted to let everyone know that reads this John Lennon/Beatles Mega Thread. That the Ledge moderators send me a message yesterday telling me, that this sunday 6/3 this thread will be deleted from the Chit Chat area of the Ledge.

Because for a long time now I have been the only one contributing to the Beatles thread and it's not really a discussion any more. It's more like a Beatles stream or monologue that only you update and enhance. While the information in it is great, it seems more suited for a Beatles website or blog than it does for Chit Chat at this point, because no one is actually chatting. For this reason, they want to remove the thread.Because It doesn't seem to be a matter of general interest for this particular forum.

The message the moderators send me,was respectful and understanding explaining the reasons for deleting this thread from the Chit Chat area. After thinking about it myself.I think its for the best and I approve of it being deleting from Chit Chat area.Since I really don't have as much the time to update it everyday anymore. Also I am busyer in my personal life to etc.

Or maybe they might consider just locking it.So all the articles and news updates and information.Could be saved and just read in the future by people wanting to go back and read the older archives.I know sometimes, some threads are just locked.I have all the articles that have been posted here saved on my own computer allready for my own archives.

This thread was started by me for John Lennon's 70th birthday back in 2010.I really loved posting news on it to share it with everyone. It was getting 1000's of views every month. It got up to over 66 thousand views this thread.I'm sure everyone has noticed how numbers go up every week and month.Either Fleetwood Mac has a lot Beatles fans.Or the Beatles have a lot of Fleetwood Mac fans. Or some Beatles fans found this thread on the Ledge.

For anyone that still wants to read Beatles related news.I am posting one link to one the biggest and I think one of the best Beatles message boards on the internet. You don't have to register to read it.I am not a moderator on it.But its updated all the time with news and cool Beatles related on it.Also the moderators there are fair, cool and respectful and do a great job. Or use Google to find other Beatles message boards or Beatle news web sites for news updates etc.

Thank You to the owner of the Ledge and the moderators that have allowed this thread to go on for long as it has. Thanks to everyone that has read it,posted and helped to keep this thread going for so long. Its been a great run.I'm proud and happy and loved sharing this with all of you.Fleetwood Mac is still my favorite band and allways will be my number one love in music.I love the Beatles music and their solo music to.They are number 2 on my favorite bands list.Everyone have a safe, positive and great summer.Take care of yourselves and be good to each other.I 'm sending you all positive energy, prayers and my love. hugs

Well I'm so sorry to hear that MsLinds. Your point that the thread was getting thousands of views--on a blog that has ads that depend on views--just goes to show you how stupid the moderators on The Ledge are. I'm sorry I didn't contribute to the thread, but really the whole forum has degraded into blather. I will put whatever energy I have towards posting on Beatlelinks, where I'm sure they would not be so short-sighted as to delete a successful thread. Unless it was derogatory or truly offensive, I see no reason to delete it. Oh well, like I said, I think the energy is better spent over on Beatlelinks. And your efforts are much more appreciated over there as well, I'm sure ;-)

Default John Lennon/Beatles Mega Thread

Your welcome Nico and 3rd World Man.Please don't worry that you didn't have time to post on it. I did research on Google and other internet sites everyday. For news items to post here etc.But I never really had the time myself to post more.Even on actual Beatles fan message boards. The news forums, basicly are for posted news, they never do get a lot of postings on them. The other forums on these boards allways get the most postings.I think for Beatles news etc,its best everyone reading this thread, goes to other Beatles fan message boards.Since the decision was made about shutting down this thread.I have decided even if they had changed their minds.I would not be posting anymore Beatles related news on this thread anyway.

Please don't be sad anyone. It had a good long run. This thread was one of the most read and successful threads on the Penguin Ledge. It has all those gold stars near it to.Maybe the thread will just be locked for a few months. Before its deleted. So people can still back and go and read all that information and old news etc.But sometime tomorrow,I'm expecting this thread to be gone. You all think happy, positive thoughts. Everyone have a great weekend and take care. " I don't know why you say good bye I say hello "...
