Musically speaking, "Everybody Finds Out" . . .

I've been playing through Say You Will at least once a day, and I love the album. I keep thinking the band is missing a golden opportunity by not performing "Everybody Finds Out."

Do any other musicians/singers here think this song could be performed well on the stage by the band? Anyone think it has a snowballs chance of ever being played live, perhaps on the second leg of the tour? Lindsey's voice provided extraordinary backup, John's bass is powerful, and it seems like a song Stevie could rock out on. What are your thoughts on this song's viability to be performed LIVE.

In my opinion, it's a crime against humanity that they aren't doing this. They could SO totally rock out on it.

Maybe they're scared of recreating the mono-telephone effect live.. ok, big deal.. just don't.

And at the end, instead of having the (kick ass) synthesizer part.. i guess its a synth anyway.. there's LB's chance to rip a solo if that's the requirement for live material now. I know it isnt really.. but just a thought.

EFO is a GREAT song.. it makes me sad to think I won't ever see them do it live. Keepin' the faith.

In my opinion, they should play it just like it is on the record, synth and all, and perhaps open the show with it. I cannot believe they are not doing this one. But that is the way it goes.

IMO, that synth part is one of FM's best "musical ideas"....ever. I wonder if Stevie had written it in as part of her song.. or if it came in as a suggestion from LB/whoever later in production.

Totally. That's what makes the song rock even more...it builds up to this amazing climax with the synth and it's like, BAM! Ya know what would be really awesome...to have like, a little mini-orchaestra play the ending instead of a synth...like just a few people on stage w/them playing some classical instruments. Ever heard Hooverphonic?? One of their songs was used in a Jetta commerical back a few years ago. They are *awesome* and they have their own little orchaestra. Download "Renaissance Affair" or "Battersea" by them...it's kind of reminiscent of the end of EFO. I freakin' love this song!!! Yes, it SHOULD be played live and so should THROWN DOWN!!

Amen to that!! Those are my two favorite songs on the CD. I listen to them all the time and they make me smile and sassy!
well the sassy part comes with EFO..lol.

i just feel sure that this would be Stevie's and Fleetwood Mac's biggest hit in 20 years, its her new 'Stand Back', its her new 'Rhiannon,' as far as I'm concerned. I know that she and the band would perform this brilliantly live, even if its a demanding song, seeing how brilliant she was on 'Fall From Grace' during the TISL tour, which was equally rocking and i think had even less time for her to take a breath in it! i love it because its a reminder that Stevie is a world-class rock singer, and she has topped herself with this song...Her vocals on it, and how it builds.... wow... i also think its the best written song she has come up with in a long time!
i saw Fleetwood Mac recently 2 nights in a row in Worcester, Mass., and both nights were incredible, and both nights i made sure to play 'Everybody Finds Out' a bunch of times on the way to the show since it wasn't in the set.. But i think word of mouth may be spreading about this song, apart from Mac fans who have noticed it, it's been touted on an alt.dance discussion board, and maybe on the next leg of the tour it will be added.. i hope

That's the thing with SYW - Lindsey produced Stevie's songs with a "live" arrangement ... yet almost none of them are being performed live! That's what annoys me most about the album. If they're not going to perform the new songs, he should go full-ball in the studio.
I assume that because he DID go full-ball in the studio in Everybody Finds Out, that he never intended to have this song performed live.

The incredibly talented Rick Nowels wrote the music for this song and the arrangement is pretty much his. I agree that this is THE stand-out track on the album and it is SUCH a shame that they band isn't performing it live. And a big "what the ****?" goes out to Reprise for not realizing the potential that this song would/could have if it were promoted properly. Same can be said for THROWN DOWN -- this has classic Fleetwood Mac stamped all over it...

I agree with everybody. This is classic rockin' Stevie and it would be an excellent dance remix.

I bet a single would fly off the shelves. So many people could identify with this song. And others would buy it for the classic Stevie sound.

P.S. I'm still waiting for videos. I think an excellent video could be made from this song. Plenty of creative producers out there!

The REALLY cool thing about "Everybody Finds Out" (EFO) is that the "synth" isn't your typical keyboard synth. It is Lindsey's Turner Renaissance retrofitted with a special pickup and run through a guitar-synth. That's Lindsey playing "guitar" on that part.

I say, if they can play "Stand Back" live, they can pull off "Everybody Finds Out"...both have a similar "feel" but I think EFO is actually a stronger tune.

Actually, I think the only songs on SYW that actually sound like they'd be nearly impossible to play live are...well, come to think of it, the ONE song that would be is:

The rest of the album sounds very "do-able" live...and why they're not is beyond me. Like one concert review I read said, (paraphrasing) "What album are they promoting this tour, Say You Will or Rumours??" If they really are so jazzed about their new material, their new lineup, etc, you'd THINK they'd be pushing the NEW stuff and only making concillatory gestures toward their old material.

On the VH1 show....I think it was...she goes "New material is hard to do, it's hard for the audience" or something along those lines.....

You know what I say to that?

Very frustrating indeed! It defies logic. I think it's a case of insecurity (of the band members), and ineptness (of their old, stale managers).

It is a shame that it seems EFO will go down as a missed opportunity and be lost throughout the years. I was so glad when Stevie kept Enchanted in the set list for TISL because that's such a rockin song to do live. Fall from Grace, though it was done live, was the TISL missed opportunity I think for a single. But back to EFO, one of my favorite small bits in the song is when, toward the end, she sings "We see no change in sight" then there's that little synth part that goes "do DO." It's hard to recreate through text, but I'm sure you know what I mean. How can we get it through their heads that they need to do EFO live? Those of you who get the lucky chance to meet any of the band members should definitely say something about it!

I totally know what you mean. AND . . . .might I add that part is usually accompanied by moi doing a wild hand/arm gesture over my head or across my eyes (a la "Pulp Fuction" ) while dancing with little to no rythym by myself in my house!!!!
