Default Ombtrars

Where is everyone the last couple of days? Sure has been quiet around here. Anyway I would like to talk about this song. First of all, it's criminal that it was never released earlier as a single in 86 instead of the B-side to Talk to Me. Secondly, it's on my top 10 Stevie favorites list. I really really worship this song and that voice - especially those "oooh hoooos" over the guitar". Next, I always think it's about Don Henley for some reason. Did I read that somewhere or is it just speculation? Thank goodness it's on Enchanted and finally got some appreciation. I'm not crazy in love with the lyrics (grammar?) but the music is nothing short of delicious and I dig the concept of the song. It's not one that's spoken of that much so what do you think of it? Oh and one last thing...the guitar parts are smokin' hot you undercover music lover .

I made up a little story in my mind that it was about Les Dudek. Not that I have any evidence for anything between Stevie and Les other than him contributing a bit on RAL.

I also love this song..especially when it first came out..but now I think it sounds a little '80's over produced, but I still love the vocal. Based on the time period that it was recorded, I always thought it was about Joe Walsh.. especially since she sounds so heartbroken ("you know that I will call if just to say goodnight and that is all..".) and I never got the impression that Mr. Henley broke her heart. Smile At You, I believe is about Henley...the story I heard was the song was prompted by Henley being caught with an underaged girl...any truth to that?

There are a few other songs from this time period that I always connect to Walsh (i.e. She Still Loves Him, I Call You Missing)

I remember hearing OMBTRARS on the radio once right before RAL was released...and I remember where I was...sitting in my car early in the am in the school parking lot. I also remember the first time I heard I Can't Wait (also before the album was released) on the radio as I was driving home from picking up a pizza and the lyric that stuck in my head afterwards was "well she dances around in a circle, well she's got that feeling now..." I LOVED LOVED LOVED the song and could not wait to hear it again. I was also certain (but wrong) that ICW was going to be the first track on side 2 of the album (I thought it was the Edge of 17/Stand Back of RAL.)

I love the Jim Ladd interview where she tells him the name of the song as:

"One More Big Time Rock And Roll Star Just What I Need"

and Jim laughs and says "that's the title?"

Longest song title ever. LOL.

Stevie wrote and recored it in July 1983 on The Wild Heart tour, right as she started her true love affair with Joe Walsh. He even plays guitar on it. Pretty clear who it's about...

I'm SO glad a friend of mine gave me a crystal clear vinyl rip several years back, so I can listen to the song unedited! That Enchanted fade destroys the ending...

Hey, my friend did the same thing. I think he may have actually blended the Enchanted version into the full ending from the vinyl. Here it is...

One More Big Time Rock and Roll Star

Your not the only one! I was trying to read it backwards...duh!

Anyway, once I figured out what song we're talking about...yes, I do love this song. I like the "there were candles...crystals...I was anyone's fantasy..." line. This song did make my Stevie solo playlist but I had some trouble placing it. When I shuffled the running order for about the hundreth time, I put the song last and it works very well. Her voice sounds delicate and frail yet powerful at the same time, like it may give out at any second...

This song is definitely one of my favorites of all time. I go through phases where I will play this song on repeat over and over.

Not exactly sure who I believe it's about. I used to think Don but that's probably just because I used to read it on the boards all the time. Now I'd probably lean more towards Joe due to the time frame.

I've only heard the enchanted version so I'm really excited to hear the original with the extended ending. ^^Thanks for posting.

Like "The Song of the Legend of the Three Birds of Rhiannon" or whatever it was.

I've always loved this song too....to me it should've been on RAL LP too....replace some of the other songs that aren't my favorites or just fillers to me. Yeah, not a big fan of the faded version on Enchanted either.....I thought Stevie did state in an interview /now I don't know if the whole song is about Don but I know she did say the delicate white ribbon card was about when Don would send her flowers & it said ....from One More Big Time R & R Star on it? or something.....sorry I just don't recall the interview.....of course Joe could be in there.....I guess anyone really....if anyone could verify this .....please......I do love this song as well as Battle Of The Dragon....I so love the vocals on that one too.....awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
