As we know, a lot of the Mac's biggest and most iconic songs (things like Rhiannon, The Chain, Gold Dust Woman, Landslide, I'm So Afraid) were released at a time when the music video was not a big media format. Also a lot of songs just simply didn't have videos, like Sara, Sister of the Moon, etc etc.
So my question to you is - if you had been in charge of making any of these videos, what would you have put in them? What would the images be, what would the atmosphere be? No, you can't pick a live performance that's already out there (Midnight Special Rhiannon or SOTM live in 82 for example) and no Say You Will types - the band performing the song in a studio or stage setting. They can be the big hits or the songs that were never realeased as singles. A new idea for a video that was already made? The idea struck me last week and I'm really curious to know people's thoughts on the songs I mentioned above, and also ones like Caroline and Tango in the Night. Discuss! |

I always thought a Murder on the Orient Express theme would have been fun for a group song like The Chain or In the Back of My Mind.

I think Sara would have been a simple telling of the story. Mick driving up in his big black car, Stevie and a friend hearing him and running to the window. Sara being like an angel, the personification of inspiration and stevie in a forest singing to her muse...

There were video productions far before MTV. Bohemian Rhapsody was made in 1975, Abba had several videos during 1979/80, and I'm not saying about videos of band playing live, but real productions
So this is an interesting thread, cause it was possible to have FM videos. Truly video clips.. My wishlist... Sara Sisters of the moon (both videos will tell us more clues about the meaning of the songs). World Turning Rhiannon, of course. the firs mystic Stevie video GYOW and Dreams would have been painful, wouldn't they?? YMLFun (well, painful for John, also. humm.. Now i Know why there are no videos from the Rumours era...) |

Some of the videos I would have liked to see:
Sisters Of The Moon - The song played as voiceover with all the Mac working in a factory that produces cars. Brown Eyes - Only Christine singing and walking in the empty backstage of a Mac concert. That's alright - Simple setting, all seated in a bus singing and playing Say Goodbye - Lindsey, Stevie, John and Mick, walking in London streets wih scenes sent fast forward. Miranda - No Macs, a big mall as set, with the camera following different women who are doing shopping Illume - (stripped down version) Stevie singing looking straight to the camera it with the other mac seated in in different hotel rooms. My thoughts for Rhiannon are that the video should be extremely mystical (smoke, clouds, crystal balls, moons, bells, etc.), and that they should use the mythical character, Rhiannon (the namesake for the song) in the video as well. Rhiannon's form could be paintings/drawings that they cut to or a real person who plays her. She should be dressed in a beautiful, winged, pearl-colored dress with long flowing, blonde hair. Come to think of it, this sounds a lot like Stevie.
Well, Stevie could play Rhiannon....that would be cool. That's Alright.....I see it set in an old railway station. With the band sitting in a large circle on benches singing and playing in the terminal with ghost of people walking around in vintage clothing and out on the platform with a ghost train passing by and ghosts trying to catch the trains.

Perfect. Straight Back would have made a great dark, eerie video. Kind of like Save Me but more dreamy, less stark - if that makes sense. ![]() TITN - same thing. Have the band playing on stage & people dancing on a dance floor, very choreographed like Gypsy was. |

For "Say You Love Me," I see the band aboard a small fishing trawler toward the lea end of Lituya Bay, Alaska, & then trawling out to La Chaussee spit, when the Fairweather Fault ruptures & shakes loose the debris & ice slide into the east end of the bay, generating the tsunami back in '58.
In the video, I see the splashup on the rocks opposite the slide, & then the mighty tsunami itself barreling down the bay, tossing our excited, wide-eyed Macsters over Cenotaph Island treetops & then over the spit & out into open ocean, where geometric spreading quickly attenuates the energy, leaving the band laughing giddily & gazing around at the extraordinary world of nature. Finally, they hug one another as the chorus & out-tag of "Say You Love Me" ring through the night.

Hmmm...I would like to see an oldy-worldy video for this. Instead of a Bus Station how about a Steam Train Station....?? I always pictured the POTU video. Stevie packing up and leaving someone at an apartment or hotel. She struts out and climbs into a car. Throughout the video we see differnet clips of what happened with this man and why she is leaving cut in with clips of her driving at night in the rain. When the song reaches the "Now, I Know I was wrong to live for the dream..." bit the car would break down on a bridge. Stevie climbs out (still singing) and looks around in confusion. She takes her bags out of the boot (trunk for you Americans) and as the music starts again and we go into the last chorus she picks up her bags and starts walking down the bridge. As the song starts to end Stevie reaches the end of the bridge. The rain stops and a huge rainbow appears over the bridge. Stevie looks up and smiles and continues walking and the video fades to black. Opinions? |

Thanks for the kind words about my "That's Alright" idea. I thought that it was a neat idea too. ![]()
