Default RIP Grandma

Well, I lost my last grandparent last Saturday to cancer. My mother has been in Tennessee for the last 3 weeks taking care of her. Sara and I went down last Sunday for the funeral, and we stayed all week to help mom and the rest of the family pack up and move furniture and odds and ends. I'll tell you what, I've never packed up so much **** out of one little apartment. It seemed like once you drug it out, it expanded. It never quit. Once we had her things out, we had to clean, which wasen't bad at all. My grandmother was so spotless.... And she had so many friends... wonderful people. We never went hungry the whole time we were there. We had so many people cooking and baking and pressing money into our hands (for expenses) it was rediculous. I guess that's what they mean by a "southern charm." These people were just wonderful. I just love it down there. There really is no place like the south. And, you can get sweet tea anywhere! I loved it!! But, I'll miss my grandma, even though we didn't get along all the time. Appreciate those you love while you have them, because once they're gone, they're gone. Anyhow, just wanted to say "I'm back" if you missed me.

Unhappy Sorry to hear that...

My condolences to you and your family.

As a Southerner, I smiled when I read what you said. Glad you were treated well by your grandmother's friends.

I don't drink sweet tea anymore, but I grew up on the stuff.

Im sorry for your loss. I hope your Grandma didnt suffer...

Its nice to hear how people rally around at times like those. Its good you're back, I hope you're doing ok yourself

And Brian? I know what you mean about losing a cat. It hits me like a ton of bricks every time, but the worst was my cat Kwai Chang who was one week away from 20 yrs old when my friend ran him over...poor baby. I cant pass a dead animal on the street without reacting. Big Huge car, little tiny bodies, its just horrible.

My condolences

That remind me that I lost 3 of my grandparents because of cancer. That's a sign, definitely. At least they got it (or they realized it) when they were very old, so they had a great long life. But the pain during the illness is very hard, and worse when you are very old.

Sorry to hear. My ex lost his grandma in late Jan - but she was my adopted grandma too, since I'm so close with his family. It's hard.

Both my Dad's parents are gone, but my Mom's are still hanging in there. I'm afraid it will only be a few more years, which sucks, but at least there's still time.

And sweet tea? LOVE IT. And have a mouth full of filled cavities to prove it.

Thanks for all the well wishes. It's been pretty rough on my mother. I feel awful for her. We just lost her dad less then a year ago. He also died of lung cancer. That is the 3rd grandparent who died of lung cancer. The fourth died of a heart attack, but was diagnosed with breast cancer 2 times. Scares the hell out of me. This is the reason I quit smoking.
