Default Post your problems here and maybe other ledgies can help you

Post your problems here & maybe other ledgies can help you.

I am working on the Menuet from Le tombeau de Couperin (Durand edition) but I am having trouble with pianissimo section after the Sourdine (the recapitulation of the musette although I don't know why Ravel called it a musette). So basically I'm talking about measures 73 to 80. The Menuet is probably considered an advanced beginner's level, but that's about where I am. The left hand chords in measures 73 forward have to be played at a nice clip, & your hand has to jump around quite a bit (which always gives me vertigo), & the chords should be played cleanly & crisply with no roll. So I of course suffer because my left hand lands adjacent to where it is supposed to land, & then my eyeballs start darting rapidly between left & right hand on the keyboard & I get either nausea or a headache. Does anyone have any "fixes"?

"Le Tombeau de Couperin" is my favorite music in all the Earth & the Menuet is the only part of it I can possibly do & so I don't just want to throw it all in. I might also post on the piano newsgroup, but I want to know whether ledgies can help. Thanks, guys.

Also, on the weight machine front, I think that some days your body just does not feel like going to its limit, going for the burn. You sort of feel as if there's no more energy way before you should be feeling that, so on those days all you can do is do what you can & don't worry about it & don't obsess about it & just go home & eat some frozen wild blueberries. Costco has King Salmon fillets from the Copper River in Alaska on sale -- 2 pounds -- for $17.99. You NEED those fish oils.

Well, either you can do it, or you can't. Mechanical aspects of piano are always difficult. If you can't get the left hand/eye coordination thing down, I suggest you scale your sights to something more accessible.

I know my limitations, perhaps you should define your own.

Have you tried a grande white chocolate mocha from Starbucks? I find they cure lots of things. About your weight machine issues... I can't answer as I prefer to sit on my bu*t most of the time. LOL!!

Okay, here's my problem: First I must GLOAT: I went to a 2nd hand store today cuz they had their yearly half off sale and I've been into vintage for awhile... so I find these two LPs, Kate Bush and Supertramp Breakfast in America... paid $1 each..... whoot.... so the problem is, my record player only plays thru one speaker, the radio and everything else both speakers have sound. I checked the RCA connections and they seem fine. I use an EQ too. Didn't check to see if the whites were going into the whites and the reds the reds, etc. I was VERY careful about that when I hooked it up. Any ideas? Sounds weird with one speaker.

1) Have you tried playing it with a reggae beat?

2) I think that's called "Chronic Fatigue Syndrome", just get your doctor to give you a never ending scrip of Klonopin; and add to those blueberries with strawberries & vanilla yogurt, top with granola for a great dessert or breakfast.

3) Flax seed oil is better and doesn't offend those around you when you fart or belch.

Glad you're here, David.

Funny you should mention flax seed oil... I just took a flax seed oil pill not five minutes ago! I was taking fish oil but I was starting to smell like a fish. David, I eat frozen blueberries all the time... they're really good for you... I try to eat them in place of a sweet desert. Also, on days when you're not feeling energetic at the gym, I say do what you can and then get the hell out of there. I know there are some days when I'm just not going to have a good work-out no matter what and there are days when I have amazing work-outs... save it for another day.

Check your tone arm connection on the player. Which kate did you find?

How fast is it supposed to be played and how fast are you playing it when you practice? Have you tried working on the parts separately and then slowly bringing them together?

It sounds like it's one of those tricky parts in a song that no matter what you do, it still doesn't work out quite the way you want it to. I'm not a big fan of the octave or more left hand jumps (if that's what you're dealing with, I'm not sure since I'm not familiar with the piece) but the best advice I ever got on them was to take it slow and keep doing them over and over until they're comfortable (or until you can do them in your sleep, whichever comes first), then slowly bring them up to speed.

Let me know how it works out

How ironic. The other day, I was trying to teach myself "Takin' Care Of Business" by Bachman-Turner Overdrive. As for your problem, I say you should try playing with your eyes closed

I'd say 60% of my dinners in the last two months have been fish, rice or pasta, steamed veggies, and a salad, which has helped me lose between 20-40 lbs. I find that my body responds mostly to the weather. If it's overcast, like it was today, I'm totally useless. This weekend was fairly crazy, and I was lucky to have gotten ten hours sleep for three days. But today was cloudy and rainy and I honestly stayed in bed until 4:00 p.m. It was soooo refreshing! And then I hogged out on KFC with the family.

Hhmm tone arm seems okay... there's some cutting in/out going on so something's definitely whacko. Anyway, the Kate Bush album is called The Whole Story... so it's a compilation... 1977 to 1986. I was never a huge Kate Bush fan, but this is good listening.

Laura

(Edit: There was a wobbly connection from the tone arm to the needle cartridge. sheesh, trust me when I say the turntable doesn't see that much action. Never mind. I just fixed it by switching the RCAs, they're backwards now but both speakers work. That's all I care about... WOW! Love this Kate Bush album. )
