It is great that someone that isn't as big of a fan as we all are can see how magical "Silver Springs" is, especially during that first performance of it on The Dance tour. It is a WOW! to everyone I know who has ever seen it, fan or not. It turned one of my friends into a Mac fan after watching The Dance video with me, and of course, she especially liked the "Silver Springs" part. It is just too wonderful!!!!

I agree with the writer. Why would you put yourself through that? Fame and fortune is great and all, but she's right and she does look furious after 20 years. No one I've talked to that's seen that denys that she looks pissed off! So it's a simple question, but - why did she go back? I don't think I could do it.

I love SS from The Dance, but I also love SS from Boston, I can't decide which one I love more. I guess I love them for different reasons.

SS from the Dance is what sucked me into total FM mania, even though I had been aware of the Mac since I was a teenager. I remember pausing for a moment before passing it by while channel surfing and saying, "who is that poor guy Stevie Nicks is going after?"

When I saw the reference to anger, I remembered two quotes I read from the Stevie Nicks: In her own words website (and, through the magic of the net and the cut and paste option--voila!):

In six weeks of rehearsal, it [performing Silver Springs for the MTV special] was never like that...Only on Friday night did we let it go into something deeper. When we went on Friday, I knew we'd bring it out in case it was the last thing we'd ever do. The other shows were really, really good, but they weren't the show I wanted to leave behind. This show was...I wanted people to stand back and really watch and understand what [the relationship with Lindsey] was." ~Stevie Nicks, Arizona Republic, August 12, 1997

Well, since that performance I have to sing Silver Springs to him almost every day, so Lindsey and I get to do and say things that we wouldn't get to say to each other in real life. It's like a release. Even now, we don't talk much, so when those songs come around and are directly involved with our relationship it's very therapeutic to work that stuff out. This way we get to have closure.

I've never thought their breakup was as simple as girl dumps boy. Boy is brokenhearted. It's more than suggested by the lyrics of SS that Lindsey was involved with another woman and I've always thought that contributed to things. On the other hand, according to Lindsey, Stevie wanted to "pack up and shack up" as well. Ah, the 70s. All that free love was not so free after all.

There was a whole mess of anger around on both sides but I know when I saw Lindsey on some of those behind the scenes tour video boots we have (from Tusk, in particular), he seemed to border on being obnoxious at times (and I'm a big fan and love the man now so don't throw any eggs at me, please;-) They both just grew up but old feelings are old feelings and they don't necessarily ever die.

You know that quote we all discussed last week about how they relive their love affair in a concert? Well, SS (from the Dance, especially) could be where they relive the breakup.

But, to this day, I think it's the most dramatically awesome performance of a song I've ever heard.

I know Stevie's phoned in her share of performances before, and even "acted" passionate when she might not be feeling that way. But the "Dance" version of SS is clearly real. And why wouldn't it be? It was the first time she was performing live alongside Lindsey since 1982 (not counting the Clinton inauguration, when we have to assume she was seriously valiumed out, and a one-off performance of "Landslide" during the Mask tour).

Don't deny that it is one huge aspect of this band's performance. Too big for my liking but I try to ignore it. I'm yet to see Robert Plant break down into tears, dance around as some Lord Of The Rings character, or start masturbating on stage whenever he performs any of his songs. The drama that the songs describe simply weren't a huge drawcard as opposed to the case with FM. Hence FM have to satisfy the crowd they have attracted so they play it up, and for many they succeed.

I can take singers expressing emotion and the like, that's part of their job in order to make the song appealing, in order to sell it. But don't fake it. Fleetwood Mac pretty much fakes everything, from the canned speeches that may have had meaning in the beginning but have now become cliched jokes, all the way down to the ridiculous Landslide bull****. Play the music and emote honestly, don't bull**** us.

Not to me. I'd like for the crowd to go nuts over the music, not the bull**** interplay between Stevie and Lindsey or his pawing at his guitar or her doing a slow twirl.
