Amen, Livia. The main problem in my opinion: this outfit does NOT fit her well at ALL! it draws immediate attention to her hips and backside which are really her only 2 problem areas. By it being so snug at the hips it makes her look thick-waisted when actually her waist is pretty small in person. She has so many lovely features to play up: toned, thin arms, a graceful neck, pretty, girlish shoulders and a beautiful torso overall. And of course the terrific hair. That's a lot to work with, regarding necklines, off the shoulder, or sleeveless dresses or tapered waistlines with less heavy and lacey material at the hips so tight.
The fabric from the waist down should NOT be lacey, velvety, layered or tight. All of this add bulk. A thin, unlayered fabric would trim her hips down. The lacey, heavy material she could get away with from the waist up, so she (or her dressmaker) are choosing exactly the opposite of what would flatter her figure. In the meantime, I'd settle for her getting a tailor or seamstress, so that the clothes would at least hang right on her! This 'uniform' looks so 'off the rack' and I'm sure it cost plenty and apparantly she bought 50 all the same. It's amazing this outfit is what she has chosen to wear- exclusively- on TV for eons, and for this tour.
And yes, black is slimming if you're 20 or 30 and trim anyway, it makes you look extra-sleek. Obviously, a black dress will always be a big part of Stevie Nicks' stage uniform, but in her 50s it's doesn't flatter her skin tone, it truly ADDS pounds and every now and then, a pale dress would play up her really beautiful skin and make her look younger. She could always wear a black shawl, cape or coat over a pale pink, green, tan, or ''blue green aquamarine'' dress- she'd look gorgeous. A longer dress (think the back of the 'Rumours' lp) would give her more of a line and not make your eyes go BAM to the hips like this current uniform definitely does. But she's Stevie Nicks and we love her anyway- she just seems clueless when an outfit takes away from her figure and adds pounds. As long as she writes and sings as beautifully as she does, that's what matters. Of course...
Still-- i'd love for her to know when something is ill-fitting and makes her look heavier and not as beautiful as she is. And now i know i'll get slammed for giving this so much thought, so fire away with the 'mr. blackwell' or 'queer eye for the rock diva' barbs

(obviously, i edited your quote!) anyway, no bashing here....i completely agree with you. i had a pretty strong feeling that she was going to be wearing the same outfit but there was still that little glimmer of hope that she was going to wear something else. then she came out and voila!

i thought the same thing....her clothes are so unflattering now...it's like she (or whoever dresses her) is getting more clueless (clotheswise) as she gets older....yes, she was smiling and cute and all but her clothes are unflattering to her figure. and you're right about the black. i keep hoping that she'd bring out some nice velvet or something. i liked her hair off to the side better than in the middle. and, at least she wore boots, although not platforms, rather than the reeboks.

This is kind of silly of her. I mean, doesn't she realize she wore the same outift on tour (which hundreds of thousands of people saw), the same outfit on Jay Leno (on two episodes! which millions of viewers saw, and now she wears it at the awards.

Most women I know worry if they wear the same dress to a Christmas party they wore the previous year. I mean, what exactly is going on here?

Does she not have another dress that would fit her? Maybe she gained some weight and doesn't want to break down and change sizes, i dn't know....

She should try wearing a pant-suiit for a change, or maybe something that is red or navy if she has to stick with dark colors.

I was wondering, why would you say that black doesn't look good on her? What is the rule, you should wear black and darks if you have light skin and if you have dark skin you should wear light pastel colors? Can someone tell me what that rule is???

christopher, i dont think there's an actual rule, and of course she can, will and should choose whatever she likes.
i just meant that as we age, usually sometime around 40, softer, pale colors give a more flattering, youthful, soft glow to the skin, whereas the black just accentuates that the skin isnt 25 years old anymore, it looks kind of harsh and stark. Stevie has pale AWESOME skin, and wearing pale soft colors would play that up and make her look softer and younger overall, but she could still wear black over it, but a soft, pale, muted focal color would be a less harsh contrast and make for a less severe look. 'Severe' contrast looks good at 20, 25 or 30ish because you still have that 'young skin'. After a certain age, 'severe' just looks 'severe' But she's good- looking nonetheless. and what a voice

I'm beginning to think that Stevie misunderstood the new rules about "one carry on" for an airplane and instead read "one bag, period." I do wish she would wear some color, I know every woman needs a little black dress, but really, one doesn't need to wear it everyday.

I loved the red outfit she had for the cover of RollingStone. She had a black one as well that she wore at the RnR Hall of fame awards - they were the same... I think Richard Tyler designed those for her. You can see the detail of the red one at the back of the Enchanted Box set where there is a shot of "The Boots". She looks great in red!

Also, I said this along time ago, but the outfits she had for The Dance show (DVD) were pretty cool too with the dripping sleeves, the longer length of dress... Those were very flattering - and frankly the last time I saw something that I liked on her. I enjoy the dripping sleeves and the platform boots... It just adds to the whole mistique.... Now if she would only put that top hat back on.. Like in the old days, that would be a killer!

We've saw some varied outfits worn during the Enchanted Tour too - what happened to those?

I'm very surprised to see this thread. Just a couple of months ago we were all excited that they were touring again and Stevie got nothing but praise. Now people are b*tching about her dress.... Who cares???? As long as she's happy I don't care what she wears. She could be in jeans or sweatpants or.... whatever. The show is great, she is great so what's there to complain about?! I don't get it. She's 55, going through menopause, has a hip injury and still she wants to sing for us. I heard (maybe this is a rumour) that she even put off surgery to come to Europe and Australia. If that isn't dedication to her fans than I don't know what is. If she wants to wear the dress for the rest of her life, more power to her!!!!!!!!

Anyway, I hardly think anyone wants to see Stevie in sweatpants, not that she would ever wear sweatpants.... From what I know, she's too classy for that. At least I hope. I mean, I'm not going to pay a hundred bucks to see some lazy old lady in sweatpants and a tacky t-shirt, I want Stevie Nicks!

And I love Stevie to death, but part of the reason I love her is because of her "mystical" and classy look...

Exactly. Obviously the clothes are not as important as the songs, but this is a woman who used to brag about creating an image, a mystique. She did not build it with one outfit.

Is it possible that this dress is easy to get on & off with a bad hip, so she wants to wear it for that reason? Oh, who am I kidding. How would she know, she never takes the thing off.

Let me get this straight.... if she's wearing the dress, she's Stevie Nicks but when she's wearing sweatpants she's some lazy old lady. To me she's still Stevie with a great voice, excellent songwriting and the magic. You know why? Because she's Stevie period. It doesn't matter to me what she wears. I must admit that I never saw her in sweatpants but I did see her wearing a jeans and a shirt without make up and she was still Stevie. And I'd be willing to pay a hundred bucks just to see her no matter what she wears. I think that's called "unconditional love". And loving someone to death means you'll accept them no matter what.
