Some people said they're not into all the drama behind the band members' lives. Well, I'm not into all the drama and bitchiness that goes on between some of the posters on this board. It never fails, when I get into reading a long thread, sooner or later someone will take personal offense at something somebody said and I have to wade through many "war of words" posts to get to the good posts that stay on the subject. Can't we just stick to talking about Fleetwood Mac?
Another way I'm different, I think, is that I'm pretty disgusted by the drug and alcohol abuse that has gone on within the band for years. (Not just the band, but everyone around them and the music industry as a whole.) It's not glamorous; it's a waste of health, time and money. The ultimate example of this for me was when I got a backstage pass to meet Lindsey after and Out of the Cradle concert and he was so wasted he couldn't talk coherently, couldn't even say "hello." These people have been so blessed, yet they have very little self control or common sense when it comes to what they put into their bodies. The above is my opinion; don't bother flaming me, I'm not gonna respond. |

![]() I'm not sure if Lindsey's ever been innovative or come up with a totally radical musical idea on his own, I personally think he attempted to popularise some of the punk and new wave ethics in the American mainstream for some time and still tries that to an extent; he's just stuck in the same old rut. But Bach and The Beatles never came up with anything totally unique either, they just combined several things that were surrounding them together so that it was accessible to many and thus they're the most revered of their eras.I certainly wouldn't claim that OOTC is tremendously risky, but when it was released it definitely stood out by being out of step with the times. If all the bass-devoid '80s production values were being tossed out at the time, in order to be replaced by too much emphasis on the bass (as the grunge bands did, for instance) then of course it must have sounded a bit dated by then. No real rhythm section either, and devoid of a real band sound. Suspicious to most in the early '90s, methinks. But one of the things that I think did contribute to the obscurity of the album was once again its diversity, some alternative rock-like material here and there (although I know you think the rockers on it sound "tame"), a lot of the Rumours-era sound and obvious throwbacks to pre-'60s popular music. Does not "Countdown" rip off "La Bamba" somewhat? He quotes "A Theme From Summer Place" at the end of "You Do Or You Don't". There are classical-sounding guitar parts all over the place, a Kingston Trio tribute and a Rodgers/Hammerstein tune. And of course "Soul Drifter", the one that Lee Hirschberg called "a real song". That guy used to work with Sinatra while The Chairman was recording the great American songbook. Lindsey even said that it was done with a Tin Pan Alley sensibility in mind. So I do see the album as a risk, maybe not as a conscious one; after all the sound on it is almost as smooth as on TITN. But when it came out nothing at the time sounded like it because no one in the pop/rock mainstream was addressing the past as obviously as Lindsey did. I think he really wanted to make a tribute to pre-'50s music and that influenced the production on the entire album, even though some tracks obviously differ in style. In the early '90s it was out of time, because it's timeless. And of course the same goes to Law And Order.

I knew it. You totally prostitute yourself to get sexual favors, don't you?? You can't earn them through an honest day's work like the rest of us, so you just sell your body for them. Tsk. ![]()
