I know how Stevie felt b/c I know that growing up I was called disgusting b/c of my weight...It still hurts to think about it... Anyway, I just am glad that Stevie was so strong and she held her head high, knowing that she did have some problems

amen sista lol....I won't blame my self esteem problems totally on the media...BUT, as I'm learning in my public opinion and propaganda class...the media do play a very large roll in the way we think and feel...interesting stuff...and I've been working my ass off all summer at the gym and trying to eat better just so I don't feel like a complete blob walking down campus with all of the mostly naked girls

No matter what people are saying, Stevie was never OBESE...please...there is a man in my town that literally can't hold himself up anymore...he's got this walker contraption...his stomach hangs down to his knees...THAT is obese...Yes she looks fabulous today...and she's gone through some bad times...but why is her weight even such an issue? I just don't get it..she still made good music...she still had her great voice...

I was think that if Stevie had just gained the weight from 1989 to 1994 and never been so spaced out on Klonopin and who knows what else (she has said Prozac and Vallium), would she still have gotten the flack for the weight? I think probably so because Delta Burke and other beautiful woman like Stevie all suffered the same weight fate, although Delta had mental issues as well.

I think it says a lot about our culture when stomach stapling has become a new fad.

Question

Well, I just think that was my problem for my low self esteem b/c i'm one of those girls that looks through mags a lot and when I c one of those models, I start to compare myself...I've been doing that since I was in like 7th grade and I think that with all the fake women walking around in Hollywood, that is sick. Did u all know that a size 6 in Hollywood is considered fat? Yup, I heard it on Access Hollywood! Like when one of those chicks from Alley Mcbeal--not Calista, but the first blonde, she had gotten sick and then lost all this weight--and critics were applauding her! Isn't that disgusting? The woman was ill and they applauded that b/c she lost this huge amount of weight! I don't even know what size I am anymore b/c I just wear skirts all the time now...I think i'm a size 11 but i'm not too positive...I'm always afraid to tell people in chatrooms what my weight is b/c they alllllways have to ask! I told some guy once and he told me to go away and never IM him again! Yeah, it hurt and I really can't stand it anymore...

A size 11 is well below the national average, which I think but am not sure is 16 or 18. So, do not anyone else bring you down!

Yeah, that's what I think my pants size is now but when I was put down for my weight I was like a 14 and 16--i believe. That was in the years '96-'98 and when I finally got in to HS, I went down to like a 12 and now i've graduated and I think that i'm an 11. All I know is that i'm a M in skirt size now...I still think that I need to loose a lot more weight, if I want my music career

That sucks...I know that I am not fat, BUT there is still a part of me that like hangs on to this notion that I am...because, like Gemini said we are bombared with images of "perfect" thin women...but I don't want to live like I'd have to to be that horribly thin...

I just don't think that the whole skeletal look is attractive..and I find it sad that we live in such a shallow society...a good friend of mine lived in El Salvador for three years where she was constantly told she was too skinny...it was a sign of health and good fortune to be "bigger" and I was like...man..that's where I gotta go lol!!!

I can also remember thinking I was fat from around age 7...it's just sad what this society does to young girls...

Thumbs up So true, so true...

Yeah, I think that it makes women look ill when they look so thin...My theatre teacher tried to perk us up one day by saying that there's no problem with being a size 14--she said that the girls on "Friends" look gross...lol...The thing is, the next year like when I became a JR.--she was eating these low fat and carb bars that make you thinner...I was like, "Ok Ms.Dabelow, you said that it does not matter if you're a size 14 and now you're trying to get thinner then you were?" It was weird b/c like she had died her hair this blonde blonde and her whole attitude changed...I think that was b/c of her new "boyfriend" though...*Rolls eyes* Most men screw up everything...LOL! Anyway, I'm just saying that those models on Tv and in the magazines, I would like to be some of them--but not the ones that are like bones. What is so stupid about them, is that their "cup size" is like not even their real size--they're implants. I actually don't know why Stevie had put in implants when she was perfect the way she was? That kind of bothered me in a way b/c I saw Stevie as like this woman that didn't care what she looked like and she just wanted to be her. I'm glad that she's not fake now but she never actually was but those implants were--i'm glad she got rid of them. I like the women artists that don't care what cup size they are, like Sheryl Crow and Annie Lennox Anyway, living down in Florida now is like different then Illinois b/c like all these thin women are walking around with these hot surfer boys and I know that none of those guys would be interested in me, so what's the use in trying? I never had a boyfriend and it's probably b/c they want a "thin thin" girl...

You guys make it sound like woman are the only ones who are put down for their weight. I think it is really hard for us men too. If I have to see one more guy with a six pack, huge muscular arms, and huge pecs I'm going to vomit. I think it is maybe worse for you girls, but not that much worse. I mean, maybe it is a little more taboo to discuss a man's weight and woman get picked on a lot more, but it is still very hard for us. Or at least I find myself saying, "If I could only look like...." I think that everyone suffers from thinking this kind of stuff though.

I think everyone wants to be healthy and happy, which is usually associated with being thin, which is not necessarily true all of the time. I mean, I think the girls on Friends look okay - I do not think they are too thin. I equate Lara Flynn Boyle (sp.?) with skeletal - but she says that is just how she is buiilt. I know a girl like that and Mick Fleetwood was like that when he was younger.

Also, I try never to begrudge other people who really work on their bodies and look what I think is great for it. A good example of this would be Stevie, Madonna, Antonio J. Sabato, Jr., to name a few. If that is what they are into "who am I to keep [them] down?" I just think it stinks when I try to hold myself to that standard and, therefore, have an unreasonable expectation of my body, the time I am willing to put into it, the fact that I like to eat alot, etc. Yet, I, like everyone I know, always strive to look better and I usually judge "better" by a picture in a magazine, which kind of sucks I think, but I still find myself doing it .

Angry I'm sick and tired!

After all of this talk on here, there is a special on Access Hollywood about Actresses that struggle in this business--IT'S AWFUL! You never see a special with the men that are not "up to par" in Hollywood and their weight! It's always the women and i'm sick of it! Yes, men can and do have that problem but it's mostly the women and I dislike it! When I was at the American Idol's audition, there was this really nice girl that was overweight and no one would talk to her! She had a nice voice and a great personality but no one would talk to her--it was so sad! She would like smile at someone and they would not even smile back! I know that she goes through what I used to b/c one of my nicknames was "earthquake." I remember this one girl asked this one boy if he would go out with me and he said, "No, she's too chubby." That felt awful and I grew to hate myself but it's going better for me now.
I'm still watching the show right now and it's so sad how like some of these actress were put down like Stevie It's so sad and no one should have to go through that! I think that it's not fair that men can be whatever size they want and it's "ok." I mean, yes, men do get ridiculed but not like us women. I look at like music vids and there's men that are extrememly heavy and they have these thin and sexy women hanging on them! Now, would that happen in real life? No, not unless the woman was a...u know...A woman that gives out...Anyway, I don't know if that came across right but at least I know what i'm talking about...I'm wondering if Stevie will be on this show but I doubt it...Oh, one more thing...Jamie Lee Curtis--she's so great! I mean, she came out and said that she's not perfect. I know that when my dad saw her on Jay Leno this recently he was like, "What happened to her? She's so big." I blew up in his face. I'm not sure if he was joking but he seemed serious...Anyway, I think that the media sucks but I still want to be part of it--I want to help change it.

Did you know what these Hollywood beauties do to be that thin? On the Ally McBeal set the actresses exposed themselfes to an indian virus to get ill for 2 weeks, so they would loose alot of weight, they ate cotton swaps rolled in orange juice to have something in their stomachs at all and more than one of them consumed cocaine to stand the hunger. Calista Flockheart collapsed more than once because of "exhaustion" and "dehydration" on the set. Insiders said that it was a suprise that all the leadactresses survived the 4th season.
The only actress who did not wanted to ruin her health was the one who was in Melrose Place before, she quit the job... good for her. Isn't that all madness?

OMG! Jamie Lee Curtis is one of the most naturally beautiful woman I've ever seen. That one has so much confidence and gusto that she just oozes sexiness, IMO.

I remember about six months ago when she did a magazine spread and I just remember thinking to myself "This is one class-act!!" She took one full-page picture where she was all done up with make-up and a girdle, an expensive designer dress, and lots of airbrushing. Then, on the next page, she did another full-page photo. Only this time, she wouldn't wear any make-up or let it be airbrushed and she just stood there in her underwear. She said she did it to show people out there that the people in movies are just like every other human being and they all have flaws. She said that she finds it sickening how these actresses out there project themselves perfect when they aren't and are setting bad examples. Then, she proceeded to point out her body parts that were especially "normal": her hips, her thighs, her tummy. She just ROCKS!

She did an interview on E! where she got *really* angry about infomercials, too. She said she is disgusted by these size 0 bimbos who go on TV to advertise a product to vulnerable people. She said that it made her sick when she heard them say that a certain product would change someones life.

A class-act all the way, Kim!

I like Jamie Lee Curtis anyway. But I really admired her for coming out and saying "I'm not perfect" and then illustating it with pictures. That was gutsy.
