Christine's voice

Is there anyone else even close to Christine's singing voice? Would love to hear a contemporary to enjoy.

Christine's voice is so awesome, authentic, and gorgeous. I've never heard another sing quite like her (same goes for Stevie). But when i was younger, i sometimes did confuse Lindsey with Chris (in Hold Me, Don't Stop, and You Make Lovin Fun)....

Sandy Denny had a different timbre, but I can't help thinking that Christine spent some time early on listening to Denny, who may have left her mark on Christine's airiness & marvelous throw-away quality in her relaxed phrasing.

One reviewer for Bare Trees said her approach was somewhere between Sandy Denny and Dusty Springfield. That makes sense, actually. Sometimes Dusty's effortless vocals sound a lot like Christine's. But no, in general, I don't know of anyone else who sounds like her. Part of the magic is that her voice isn't perfect. It's kinda woozy and occasionally manish--but then she is also quite delicate and feminine, too. It's a strange brew--but one that is pure gold, I think.

Listening to the opening verse of "Friend" my sister said, "Her voice is strange, eerie, as if she were a lone voice in the wilderness." I liked that.

From 1983-85 her voice was a bit worn out, comparatively speaking, but she got it back beautifully for all subsequent recordings. I still can't believe how good it sounded on ITM.

Yeah I can hear a bit of a similarity between D.S. and Christine, but otherwise I've personally never really come across anyone else who sounds like her.
