I have heard that before. However, Stevie has said herself that she did, in fact, sing backup on the song. I will have to find her exact quote. Listen to the song...you can distinctly hear her voice.

I wonder if Stevie knows that song is about her as she sings backup on it. Considering how she complains about Lindsey saying she was "shacking up" in GYOW, and how she really wasn't shacking up with anyone, I would think she would be pretty offended by his account of this song.

Damn if I can remember where I saw it, but does anyone else remember someone (maybe Stevie or Jimmy) saying that Dave Stewart wrote the music for "Don't Come Around Here No More" and Jimmy wanted Stevie to write the lyrics but he didn't like what she wrote so Stevie said she wanted Tom to write the lyrics and she would record it but then Tom stole the song? Sound familiar to anyone?

Sure does. It's on Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Runnin' Down A Dream dvd. The same one with that fabulous concert where Stevie joined them onstage back in '06.

Actually, in Petty's Runnin' Down A Dream documentary, Jimmy Iovine said that Dave Stewart wrote the music and he(Jimmy) wanted Stevie to write the lyrics to it and record it for one of her albums. She wouldn't or couldn't find the words, or wanted Tom petty to write the words. Petty wrote the lyrics, liked it, kept it, and it turned up on Southern Accents. It's such a good song!

I do have it and it is awesome! I love it. Tom Petty is one cool dude, and I can so relate to him on certain levels. I love the man's music, that's for sure.
