What is your favorite song on Mirage?

I know what you are saying, but it is hard sometimes to explain why you like things, and then people disagree with you and you have to justify it again, and usually no one knows what you are talking about anyway.
I mean, often that is fun, but sometimes I just don't feel like doing it.
Besides, maybe someone would have answered thoughtfully if you weren't so busy filling up your own thread with dumb stuff in order to make fun of others.
Plus, I rarely buy cereal, it makes me tired.

My personal favorite... hmm, it's hard to choose as I love the entire album. I'd have to say "Gypsy" though.

What do I love about it? Gosh... what's not to love? Stevie's voice sounds utterly majestic, and it absolutely soars in several places. The lyrics are wistful and evocative. The harmonies are lush. The music rises and falls with great purposefullness. And it has one of the single best codas of any Mac song, in my humble opinion.

So there you have it.

I love all of Mirage, so it's tough. I guess Hold Me. Mainly I love the "tink, tinka tink" guitar on the chorus, although it was never replicated live.
Book of Love is #2.

Book of Love for me. I love the vocal performance and the guitar, the bass line, the solo... Just the whole thing. Excellent.

Obviously, looking at this list of songs, there are 2 types of FM fans. Some people like radio pop, of which "Hold Me" is a fantastic example. Others like the more textured, slow-growing stuff (like "Book of Love" or any of Lindsey's songs).

Stating the obvious?

On "Mirage": "Eyes of the World" takes the prize for me. It has a great melody and delivery and a classic riff. I like "Hold Me," but it's a rather slight song, IMHO, that was made great by the arrangement and production. You wouldn't want to hear an "unplugged" version of "Hold Me."

I always seem to go for the "slow growers". Many of the beast albums in my collection were good (or even poor) on initial listens and then just became better and better. A number of "immediate" albums for me became very boring after a few listen.

As for Mac, I think Lindsey appeals to me more whereas it grows on others. I love Chris and Stevie's stuff, but Lindsey's stuff is immediatley likeable for me and manages not to get boring.

Does anyone know if she actually sang on it? Probably a backing vocal, but aren't I right that she kind of only showed up at the chateau to record vocals for her songs and then left return to her solo career? I know this was the case for Tango. I always thought that was sad. I love a lot of the songs that came out of the 80s for FM, but it's a little disheartening to think that they weren't working in the studio together as a band in the way the worked on the White Album/Rumours/Tusk.

Anyways...as for my favorite on Mirage, that's hard. I'm a pretty big fan of Mirage. I like it all except for Empire State. My favorite favorites are probably:

Book of Love - Something very emotional and angry about the vocal...I love it!
Gypsy - I prefer the extended version though. I believe it's on the Chain Box set.
Hold Me - I love the mood; happy but bittersweet
Wish You Were Here - One of the best overlooked FM/Christine tunes IMHO. Although, I guess she didn't write the lyrics, so does it really count? Love the end.
