My fanaticism kicked into high gear in '78 or '79, when I started collecting bootleg concerts (Osaka 12-4-77 was my first tape, I believe) from people who advertised in the back of Rolling Stone, & I sniffed out every single picture or article in magazines & newspapers (went to many libraries & used the Readers Guide to Periodical Literature to find old concert reviews & print articles in papers all over the country, & then printed them up from microfilm or microfiche). I first saw Fleetwood Mac actually play in 1976 in Los Angeles, & attended several FM shows in California the following year, like the Pauley Pavilion shows at UCLA. 1978 was a dry year for Fleetwood Mac concerts in California (there weren't any), but there were several guest appearances by the gang at various gigs from other people. 1979 really kicked it up a notch for concertgoing -- I practically spent the whole week at the Forum in '79 for the five-night stand, & saw the San Diego show & the Cow Palace show. This whole era was when my internal "image" of the band solidified in my mind, so consequently this is the era against which I have compared all subsequent eras in terms of style & presentation & actual sound (I always did prefer just the four of them playing to the lagging, dragging circus they've got nowadays).
My fanaticism took a dive with the '87 tour, due to several factors. But it lasted a good long time.

I was a fan of John Mayall's Bluesbreakers when Eric Clapton was there...I wondered who could fill Eric's shoes when he left to co-form Cream. Along came Peter Green...the rest is history.

It was in 87 when Tango came out...Being a UK boy at 17 didn't even know who Fleetwood Mac where...saw video for Little Lies on TOP OF THE POPS on the good old BBC ...I remember so clearly sitting in my lounge and being totaly enchanted by this woman on a white horse , who just sang a little of the chorus... ' Tell me liiieees'...It was wierd but from that point I wanted to know so much more about her!!!....the rest is history...a major groupie ever since...

My mom also put headphones on her tummy when she was pregnant with me. She played RUMOURS. I'm 21 now, so I am a late bloomer when it comes to becoming a hardcore fan. I always knew who the Mac was growing up, but it was hearing Silver Springs at the age of 15-16ish that I fell head over heels! So, THE DANCE was the first cd I bought....then the WHITE ALBUM....RUMOURS....For Christmas in '97 I got a huge collection...including the rare box set. Eventually, I got into everyone's solo stuff.....Now, I guess you can say I'm obsessed
 ) My collection is now overflowing with Mac/Mac related stuff.....I guess the past two years I've emerged myself in finding demos/bootlegs....I have come a long way  As of now, my most memorable experience/item is my signed Stevie poster I got from her...good times. Glad I could share my FM experience.....BTW.....I'm a new "ledgie".....(not a big computer fan, but I'm trying )CuRtIs

i got my first fm album in i think it was in the mid or early nineties wich was tango (i think i got it trough my uncle (who has a second hand comic bookstore but also has cd's on the side) wich was tango ( i also got greatest hits , and behind the mask on tape and the cd singles of both i do and save me (the tapes he could not sell because of lack of interest and the cd singles were scratched so he could not sell em but they stil played fine
later i also got rumours on dvd from him pre-dance so i was already a casual fan when i bought the dance (it was the first one i picked up new in the stores then though) aswell as the videotape of the show short after (have replaced it on dvd by now) but it really kicked in about 1999 i think when i got the enchanted boxset after that i got all the old stuff and solo stuff and albums like mirage and even time but what made me go from casual to sudenly die hard fan i can not say it's like lindsey said in the dance "isn't that weird " lol greetings marc

June of 1992, when I saw the video for "Countdown" while sitting at home with nothing to do (I was 14, so no wheels). I thought it was an awesome song and Mr. Buckingham seemed like a pretty cool dude. I had a vague recollection that he was in FM, but I always thought his name was Mick Fleetwood (my thinking was, "Why would the band be named after the DRUMMER?"
 ). Anyway, after a few days of seeing the video some more and having the song stuck in my head, I went to check out my parents' old LPs, because I knew they were FM fans. They had Greatest Hits on CD, but I was into the purity of vinyl (I had been listening to Zeppelin and The Doors nonstop for most of the previous year) and I wanted to see what these guys looked like. I found Rumours in their box of LPs in the basement, and pulled out the sleeve. I saw the picture of Lindsey standing on stage with his hand his hip and I thought, "That guy looks really cool." Then I saw the close-up of Stevie where she has a big smile and I thought, "That's the most beautiful girl I've ever seen!" So I put the album on and I listened to it over and over for a good 4 hours. My mom was probably wondering what the hell I was doing . Then I had some dinner, and went back to it again for another 2 hours. And I haven't been the same since.

i've been a fan since 1990, i was six years old and have vivid memories of loving "little lies" and "gyspy." my dad would always play fm in the car and that is how i got hooked.

This is a cool thread! I thought I'd de-lurk and post for once in a blue moon.
I became a mac fan around 1975 when the "white" album came out. It was a 1975 or 1976? [cant remember exactly] appearance by the Mac on the "midnight special" on NBC that really hooked me. They did the songs "Over my head" "Rhiannon" and "World Turning". Rhiannon and World Turning blew me away. SN and LB were "different"!! Not like any other performers at that time. SN was cool in her rhiannon chiffon... and LB was like no one else with his unique finger picking playing style. And JM & CM were just cool and laid back. MF was freaky with his "talking african drum solo" on WT. Plus, as a girl in high school at the time...I thought it was cool to have girls in a band. You have to remember that at that time.....all Big time rock bands were guys! KISS, ...etc.....not to mention that DISCO was getting geared up with KC & the sunshine band and Bee GEES much to my listening DISPLEASURE. i was and still am anti disco. and at that time FM was like NOTHING ELSE AROUND! First time I saw them "live" 1980 TUSK TOUR..... and have seen them on all the tours since. I was fortunate to have 2nd row seats on the dance tour.... and this tour i have seen them 2 times. I loved the mirage and tusk tours....but this current tour is one of my favorites! I think its better than the dance and has all the energy [sans drugs] of Tusk. The Mac still has it! cant say the same for KC and Disco! bwahaaaaaaa! Some things stand the test of time..... Lew

I remember as a youngster being driven to school and after school activities, hearing the hits from the White Album and Rumours, though I did not know it was them at the time as I was only six and seven years old.
I was told by someone who lived near me that Fleetwood Mac was a great band. I had started becoming a music fan in general, when your TV picture tube blows out and you have no entertainment then you find other ways and mine was my mom's old stereo. I saw the Hold Me video over this person's house and I bought the Mirage album, that was in late 82 and I was eleven. I got cable in 1983 and MTV reaired the HBO concert I was only able to hear on the radio. I was thrilled to watch the Mac and the solos progress over the years. I am hopelessly hooked on them!!

I remember listening to and enjoying their songs from as long ago as I can remember (my parents were fans and even owned Buckingham Nicks!), but I finally realized exactly who they were and began my obsession when I watched their documentary on Disney back in approximately 1992 when I was about 13. Landslide especially stood out to me because I'd never heard it before and I instantly fell in love with it.
