Not to make you feel bad, but I drive an MB for a little more than half of your payment. It's a 2004 and I got it in 2005 and I love it. It had just under 10,000 miles on it when I bought it so I saved a ton of money. It is a 2 door hatch back. They don't make them anymore so hopefully it lasts me a long time cause I'm really happy with it.

so, just curious: those of you that live over there, what do you earn in a month? and how much of your paycheck goes to pay for gas? and how much for your mortgage?

In CA (for the most part), it takes two incomes to afford a home. and only after creative financing. (ie adjustable mortgage rates which are EVIL)

I can attest to the fact that Jeeps are gas-hogs but I need a 4wd for winter, because without it, I couldnt get up the mountain in the snow...

ps: $250 - $500k for a house is considered REASONABLE in CA.

I know for myself and my husband it has taken 2 incomes to afford a home and everything else. The monthly outgoings are hefty if you add in all the bills. Not sure how things will be when I'm a single parent! We have a huge mortgage right now... around £1200 a month ($2406). Our house is currently for sale for £250,000 ($501,000). It's a 4 bed house but as it's in need of some modernisation the price is cheaper. We were told it would have been on for around £325,000 ($652,000) if it wasn't in need of work. We are north of London... start going south of us and the prices rocket up even more. Everyones circumstances are different. I do know that first time buyers are finding it a real problem to get on the housing ladder.

what are the wages like over there?? just curious, trying to get a feel for your cost of living...
