Default IYD - Rank the Songs

I know some posters will think this thread is premature, but many of us have listened to the songs many times by now. Obviously this is based on 1st (or 1st-day) impressions.

Here's my list, beginning with the best:

Moonlight
New Orleans
Italian Summer
Wide Sargasso Sea
For What It’s Worth
Secret Love
In Your Dreams
You May Be the One
Everybody Loves You
Ghosts Are Gone
Soldier’s Angel
Cheaper Than Free
Annabel Lee

For now...
But really, they are all fantastic, to the point that i feel bad for ranking Annabel Lee 11th...

That's really hard to do with an album like this. Every song is really good and it depends on my moods. Nothing seems to obvious.

Except for Everybody Loves You .

I can't really do this yet because I've not lived with the album for long enough. The only thing I do know is that it's incredibly consistent and I love it. That said, Cheaper Than Free is my least favourite and I don't see that changing at all.

For What It’s Worth, I agree that this is difficult to complete. Try it anyway; You May Be the One to get it right. And Stevie will put down her guitar & hand you a red rose. But if you don’t try, she may burn someone's house down.

Surprised to see Annabel Lee so far down on the lists. I really love the emotive-ness (a word?) of the chorus... "And the moon never beams, without bringing me dreams" ... I love her voice on that part.

I'm not nuts about the melody, but really it's the vocal that puts this at the bottom for me. It's not terrible compared to what we've heard on some songs on her other recent albums. But the other songs on this album just don't sound as strained/flat to me.

I really like it but it goes on a little too long, but that's just me. Her vocal is 10x better than on the demo

I don't get it either. This is the closest she's come to the "classic" Fleetwood Mac sound in years. The song, the fabulous chorus and the big built up ending.

I think its a case of lower being relative. I think all 13 songs are amazing, but when asked to rank them I did....so the one at the bottom "Ghosts Are Gone" isn't bad - its a very good song - its just that of these 13 excellent songs its my least favorite excellent song.

I do like that part of it. It's lilting and stays with me. But some of the rest of the many passages: Respite, respite and nepenthe from thy song about Annabel Lee that just will not end.

I really like the song, but it goes on too long. I figure My Heart is going to be the same way. Both demos meandered on with the same lines.

This will definitely change since it's so early, but I'll try just for the hell of it.

1. Annabel Lee
2. Moonlight
3. New Orleans
4. For What it's Worth
5. You May Be the One
6. In Your Dreams
7. Wide Sargasso Sea
8. Secret Love
9. Ghosts Are Gone
10. Soldier's Angel
11. Italian Summer
12. Cheaper Than Free
13. Everybody Loves You

I can't rank them just yet. I need them to sink in a little more. Maybe by the end of next week I'll be able to.
