He had a hit with "Lonely Boy" in '75, wrote the theme song to The Golden Girls...played in Linda Ronstadt's band from '73-76 (Waddy Wachtel took his place)

He was 59.

I didn't know this but he also wrote final frontier the theme song for the tv series mad about you.

Other Gold collaborations over the years included his work with Art Garfunkel, Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Ringo Starr, Brian Wilson, Don Henley, Cher, Trisha Yearwood, Wynonna Judd, Eric Carmen, and Stephen Bishop, all of whom with he either performed, wrote, or recorded, and sometimes all three. He also spent some time playing and touring with The Eagles and Jackson Browne, then became a permanent member of Wax, which formed from the ashes of British art-rock band 10cc. Gold was responsible for Wax’s biggest hit, the 1987 single “Bridge To Your Heart.”
