Oh no! It's the Police all over again! LOL!

Actually that is a fairly standard 50's riff isn't it? But it does have similarities.

I know there are a few Kate Bush fans here, so you'll appreciate this. I always thought Kate's Eat The Music (http://youtu.be/qM_8vOG-3CY) sounded just like Giles Farnaby's Dream by The Penguin Cafe Orchestra (http://youtu.be/K8h17ZFW7eQ)

Wow, they do sound so similar! I had heard about her lifting the pipes in "The Sensual World" / "Flower of the Mountain" from some Macedonian song, but I never heard this. Thanks!

italian summer overwhelming vibe is san remo festival-ish. i think DS was probably going for that since it fits well with the song title.

Let's not forget about Richard Ashcroft's "New York", which came out in 2001, two years before Stevie's "Illume". Then of course, since the music was crafted by Lindsey, maybe it was he who did the plagiarising?

Here's "New York".

my SYW liner notes say "stevie nicks" under Illume as the only songwriter

Crafting the music to the song and writing the lyrics are totally different beasts.

really?!?!?

she's listed as a songwriter - as in music and lyrics on Illume.

my understanding is that IYD has dave stewart listed as a co-author on many songs b/c he crafted the music to stevie's lyrics, no?

There are three Stevie songs on SYW that sound like Richard Ashcroft songs.

Illume & New York
Silver Girl & I Get My Beat
Say You Will & C'mon People (We're Making it Now)

And they're all from his album Alone With Everybody.

Here's the other two

I doubt it's a coincidence. That said, it doesn't keep me from enjoying the songs, in the same way I can like both Eyes of the World and Enchanted.

Don't forget about how Bombay Sapphires ripped off Sting's Shape Of My Heart, either:

And 'C'mon People' is reminiscent of The Four Tops c. 'Reach Out (I'll Be There)'. There's nothing new under the sun. (I nicked that from Eccleciastes, by the way.)
