Fave Horror Flicks?

[Silver Springs]

I've never been very big on Horror movies. To me they bulk up the gore and effects to the detriment of the story, thus alienating me. Though I suppose a couple I like, though I don't think they'd fall into the category of Slasher.

* Ginger Snaps
* House Of Wax (Original)
* Theatre Of Blood
* Thir13en Ghosts

Cursed
The Amytiville Horror (original version)
The Wolfman (original Lon Chaney Jr version)
The Wolfman (latest Anthony Hopkins version)
Halloween H20
Nightmare on Elm Street
Ginger Snaps
Shaun of the Dead (OK its a comedy but it's still zombies!)

I have so many scary movies on my shelf that I've lost count.

Yes! I love it. There is a remake of it that came out recently I believe and it is on instant streaming on Netflix so I've had it in my queue for a few months now, but haven't watched it yet. Have you seen it?

Do you like the remake? Tom Welling is a babe but the original is a classic!

Adrienne Barbeau's name was 'Stevie' in the movie!

I've made an illustrated, revised list (see link above).

I also notate those which are available for instant viewing on Netflix.

I tend to neglect horror for some reason, but I have a few faves I can think of.

The Shining
Let the Right One In
Alien

I'm watching THE CRAZIES right now. I think it's silly.
But the carwash scene was pretty good.

Yes. I bought it on DVD and it doesn't live up to the original. It has its moments and it's a great throwback to the era. Worth a few watches at least.

I'm a sucker for cheesy 80's slasher films. Especially the low-budget, relatively unknown ones - The House On Sorrority Row, Mirror Mirror, My Bloody Valentine, The Funhouse, Sleepaway Camp, Happy Birthday To, The Burning Me etc. But in terms of seriously scary films that I love, I think the "Alien" series is pretty spot on. It's been a LONG time since a film actually scared me, but the suspense in Alien and the jumps in Aliens get me every time. Also a big fan of the "Nightmare On Elm Street" and "Halloween" films, but who isn't? .

I prefer the classics, but recent horror flicks worthy of a mention include Wolf Creek, Creep and The Hills Have Eyes remake. Very few people make decent scary movies anymore.
