Best guess, I don't think the band has ever spoken about it. Apart from Stevie saying they had to accommodate three songwriters. The amount of space Stevie gets on Mirage compared to Lindsey annoys me the most though. Mainly because Stevie brings her A-Game to Mirage, whilst Lindsey brings a load of not-so-fabulous songs. But that's talk for another day

I SO agree. For my money all 3 writers were playing their A games during Fleetwood Mac/Rumours, but for each of the following 3 albums 2 of 3 writers were still on their A game while 1 of 3 stumbled: Christine's efforts on Tusk pale with her work on other albums. Lindsey stumbled on Mirage, probably as a reaction to all the criticism he got in regards to Tusk. Then Stevie faltered on Tango.
