please let it not be sheryl crow that ai is talking about.- not stevie, but close?
who would they consider close? no one compares to stevie's poetic lyrics. well, ann wilson many years ago, maybe, but doubt it's her.

Oh wtf. It better not be Sheryl or there will be projectile vomit on the TV screen.

Aaaaaggghhh I was hoping so much it would be Stevie, seriously, who else could it be that is known for being a poet and a legend?

The only other "Poets" I can think of are Patti Smith and Kate Bush. Neither of whom would go near American Idol.

It could be Dolly Parton for all we know. Shes been on there before, and she has written more songs for other pop, rock & r/b artists than she has even written for herself, so the poet thing could be used to describe her, tho I feel songwriter would be a more politically correct term, but who knows? I just hope it's truly someone worthy of the term "legend".

Yeah, I am a Sheryl fan, but poet & legend do not come close to describing her.

If its not Stevie, it makes the most sense that it could be Patti Smith!? After all Jimmy did produce her 78' album "Easter" featuring her biggest hit "Because The Night". And Jimmy & Patti both hail from the mid 70's New York rock scene exploding during both their rise. To me, Legend & Poet in the female music lore could only be Stevie Nicks or Patti Smith

WTF? Stevie is an individual--how can you be "close"? It's either her or it's not, but there's no such artist as "almost Stevie."

There aren't many female artists who are described as legends, and I can't think of any but Stevie who are also called poets. So I'm going to cling to my delusion that they're toying with us and it really is her.
And when I'm crushed on Wednesday, the euphoria of Webster Hall will help me move past it.

That was my guess too. I don't see how she's "close," but I would certainly categorize her as a legend and a poet, and I know she has a new album coming out sometime in May.

Obviously it's Joni Mitchell. She's got American Idol written all over her.

Aggravated that Wed. nights are the one night I teach. (No DVR or Tevo.) Do AI episodes or clips end up on YouTube?

I think you're right. But come to think of it, I could see Carly Simon getting the same description.

I don't remember Jimmy Iovine ever producing Carly Simon.

Sorry, I have not read through everything - did the original info say that the "legend" and "poet" is someone Jimmy produced?
