Well, I wonder what Annabel Lee would say... Probably:

"And then you can just do without it...
Whoa...
(I can make you crazy!)
Whoa!
(Tell me bout the fire!)
Do without it!
(Well, it's getting old anyway)
Strange, strange, strange
Lady from the mountains...
Strange lady from the mountains..."

I don't remember reading any of that. Can somebody point me to some interviews? I'd love to hear what she said about it.

"Little surprise, then, that she feels no pressure to produce new material. "It's like, does it really matter at this point?" she says when asked if she is working on a follow-up to her last solo album, 2001's Trouble In Shangri-La. "Do people really want to hear a whole other solo record, when you can get one or two songs for I-Tunes? I'm thinking about a way you could just put out a few songs once in a while, maybe four songs that you loved, instead of having to figure out 16 songs, many of which you might not love."

The singer could be making a backhanded reference to Say You Will, the 2003 Fleetwood Mac album that Nicks recorded without long-time ally and confidante Christine McVie, who left the band in 1998 in favor of a quiet life in London. Originally conceived as a Lindsey Buckingham solo project, Say You Will came to resemble two separate albums awkwardly squashed together, with nine songs apiece from Buckingham and Nicks alternating in strict succession.

"I'd be totally lying if I said that record is what I wanted, because it isn't," she says. "I argued with Lindsey all the way through it, and he argued with me. It wasn't very much fun, and I wasn't that pleased with the music. I felt my demos were better, which of course is easy to say, but I did. And what can I say? It wasn't a lot of fun."

It seems that almost 30 years after the end of her romantic relationship with Buckingham there's still tension. But you would never have known it in February 2004, at the Melbourne show of the 135-date Say You Will tour. Buckingham kissed Nicks' hand several times during the show, while she draped her arms tenderly over his shoulders as he played guitar.

According to Nicks, that tenderness, like her witchy lyrics, was just for show. "We are extremely professional, and when we get up there on the stage we get lost on the fun parts of the show," she explains. "So it's never going to show anything bad, because we're always going to rise above and concentrate on the good things."

I'm not sure how to post a link but this is from an interview with an Austrailian paper in 2006 .

I wish she would act creatively as she talks here. No other artists have experimented with this--I'm so proud of her for saying it, but now she needs to do it (preferably with the Mac btw). She/they really could/should. I have some ideas actually that I'm thinking of sending to Dave Stewart, actually, along these lines--was thinking about it all day.

This writer is a moron.

It's tough. I think the album works as a whole. I think it's a masterpiece--the best work (as a whole) the duo has done (solo or together) since Tusk. However, I also can see that it didn't reflect her sensibility or the sensibilities that they might share, if any. It really isn't her kinda thing. In other words: I want Lindsey, next time he works with her, to aim for PRETTY. Nobody does pretty like Lindsey Buckingham--surely Stevie knows it.

Interesting that the "journalist" summarizes the quote following the summary as evidence that it's "just for show." Whereas Stevie suggests that their professionalism allows them ability to concentrate on the good things. That there are "good things," "professionalism" means that it's not just for show--it's who they are.

I know she's actually loading them up with music, but it just sounded funny to me that she was "making" them.

Yes, I know they had a fight at the end of the tour and it wasn't about the album. But she wasn't too happy about the album from the beginning and that's when Lindsey said that she never thanked him, because she kept talking about it in less than enthusiastic fashion. Even when she "thanked" him for working so hard on it, I got the impression she felt half-hearted and realized that he put a lot of work into it, though the finished result was not her cup of tea.

I don't think she was miserable the whole tour. There was a stretch there during the tour where they were doing interviews that were quite lovey dovey. Then, the tour ended and they were mad at each other, for reasons that have never been explained.

But I definitely don't think they were fighting the entire tour. Things started a little grumpy. Then they seemed friendly and then it ended badly, for whatever reason and no, I don't think it's because she was still mad about SYW.

I don't remember Stevie necessarily saying it was one of the best things they'd ever done, but I could be wrong on that. She definitely didn't bash the album while they were promoting it though (which would've been counter-productive, to say the least! lol.)
I do remember Lindsey mentioning in one pre-release interview that Stevie had yet to thank him for his work on her 'SYW' songs. He stated that she was "still seeing this album through dark colors." Which I think was our first hint that there was some drama behind the scenes.

Watch the Destiny Rules doc if you have it..She states in typical Nicksian hyperbole that 'it will be a life changing event for whomever mixes the album.

After that you returned to Fleetwood Mac yet again. How do you look back on the making of Say You Will [2003]?
On Feb. 2, 2002, I went straight from the Trouble in Shangri-La tour into recording with them. It was nightmare doing that record. It really was Lindsey’s vision, and it wasn’t very much about the other three of us. And of course it was also the first record we had ever attempted to do without Christine [McVie, who left the band in the late 1990s]. Right there, the whole thing was completely insane. She is the magic mediator in that band and always was. She’s the one who made light of everything and made everybody laugh and told us all that were full of ****. She was the person who made it all work. So when she wasn’t there, that sunk the boat. I don’t think that my friend Chris ever realized how important she was. Without her, it’s a boy’s club. The lack of Christine is a big, hollow hole in my heart.

Would you be willing to attempt another record without her?
Absolutely not. Not in this lifetime. Why? We already tried, and it did not work. My thing is, somebody convince Christine to come back and do this one more time. I don’t think she’s going to change her mind, but stranger things have happened.

This makes me so sad. So I guess we'll have Dave Stewart in as the mediator if there ever is another Mac album.

Note to Dave: Hands off. Just make sure Lindsey keeps things pretty.

Exactly my point. I think there was something else going on.

I did think her bad-mouthing of SYW only started a year or so after the tour was over. In fact, when I asked Matt Baumann about her attitude during the recording and how she said she wasn't happy, he said he only had heard that later and even though there was a lot of negotiating, it seemed like he never got the impression she was that dissatisfied. I find it hard to believe she totally hated the music and yet went ahead with a release.
