The problem with the song, which I LIKE, is that it doesn't really have any meaning to its structure. It's like: random cliche meets superior "rhyming" emotion; sentiments I AGREE with but compelling more musically, emotively, than thematically, rigorously. Instead, it would have been stronger if she had maintained the thoroughline of comparing status objects (fast car, high fashion) against emotional phenomenon (beating heart, high passion).
Why don't people like Stevie and Dave know this about writing? Neil Tennant would not have let that pass. Note the song's similarity to modern classic "Love etc" by the Pet ShopBoys: Quote:
Maybe Lindsey WAS right in the Bob Dylan debate. ![]()

PLAY BY PLAY QUESTIONS/COMMENTS:
:29 - is that a pack of smokes on the console? :32 - who's dancing with her? Mary Torrey? I only say this cuz she looks familiar to me & since someone here commented that Mary's daughter is the brown-haired vampire girl in the white dress in the sizzle reel. Of course it could be a random person who we don't know, or someone from Dave's camp. :38 - love the wave 1:29 - I really want to know what Dave's playing with her rocking out like that 1:40 - who are all these witches? I only recognize Lori 1:56 - I'm still unsure, but this is clear evidence that they might be banging ![]() 2:08 - I wanna know what's in Stevie's pint glass 2:38 - Love her & Lori here 3:25 - Love it |

Bob Dylan doesn't have THAT problem.

I have no clue what Dave's wife looks like. I found this. Could definitely be her. She could also be one of the witches too. Hmmmm... http://www.askmen.com/galleries/anou...picture-1.html |

The thing that bugs me about the lyrics is that, even if they wanted to keep them simple and concise and you know, in the vain that they are now... some of them still could very easily have been improved upon.
For instance: "What's faster than a fast car?" If changed to 'What's faster than a speeding car?' it sounds much less elementary school and just .. less cringeworthy. Still doesn't make it a lyrical masterpiece but it's not so redundant, etc. I randomly thought of that change in 2.5 seconds when I was humming it in the shower (the tune IS pretty catchy), so I just feel like if they sat down and worked on the lyrics a little more it would have helped so much. It's not that they have to be MYSTICAL - that's not the problem... they just aren't good. Just my .02 cents.
