It all boils down to taste. I hear Italian Summer and it reminds me of the deplorable sappiness of Wild Heart. You hear it and you're in ecstasy. Your viewpoint is just as valid as mine. I don't discount your tastes, and you shouldn't discount mine. And most importantly, keep it about the music... leave negative personal comments of other board members to yourself. We're here to discuss the music, not berate each other because we don't have identical taste.

I love OLD country duets. Like Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty...ie Country Bumpkin.
This is all about the root of her music...and almost an ode to her grand father. I don't know about you guys but...this makes me tears of joy to just know about and experience true love. As a mate...or family and friends... I love it. and...in the video with them recording...playing smiling hugging touching... Has she found the guy she's yearned for...no competition...protective...just as busy and intense... At 63...and her whole high price for her passion in music...she may now have a guy to fill the loneliness and the guy she looks forward to coming home to...at her house or hotel while on tour... I hope this is true. That would be my answered prayer for Stevie... |

I say this as someone who loves the majority of Stevie's catalogue ('Street Angel' aside), but this is a real turd of a song. Although Stevie's vocals are indeed lovely, they can't mask a sappy sentiment and a very beige articulation of it. It's a shame that such a sweet video, which clearly sums up the whole process of making this album with Dave, is wasted on a song like 'Cheaper Than Free'.
That said, the song was worth it just for the responses in this thread. Never let it be said Stevie fans don't have a sense of humour! x |

Oh god, I can't stand Conway Twitty - he always looked like a child molester to me, plus he sang that creepy song "I Can Tell You've Never Been This Far Before" (which is about exactly what it sounds like it's about).

[QUOTE=louielouie2000;963592]That's the thing about music... it's not logical. Just because I love Stevie Nicks does not mean the next logical step is I love ALL of her songs. Music is emotional... it either reaches out and grabs you, or it doesn't. Secret Love in it's entirety reached out and grabbed me. These snippets have not done so yet. But if you'll reread my first post you responded to, I admitted I probably need to hear the entire songs to be able to connect with them and make a decision.
I thought much of the Wild Heart album was sappy. I thinks it would have been a much better album it they had gotten rid of several tracks (i.e., "Gate and Garbage" and "Beauty and the Beast") and included Sleeping Angel, Julia, Violet and Blue, Golden Braid and held on to Blue Lamp for this album. It really is about taste! ![]() |
