Damn! I've been at work all day and missed all this! I can contribute LOTS of $$ on ANY future Stevie purchases!

BTW, HELL YES there are hoarders! I've said it before: There's a woman in San Antonio who DEFINITELY has "I Call You Missing" from Street Angel and MORE. And she's been hoarding it for over 16 years!

Yeah, I'll never understand people like this. It's one thing (yes, annoying and immoral as it may be) to make money off of hoarding these things then selling them in dribs and drabs... but to just sit on it, keeping it to oneself.. to feel special perhaps? Where is the joy in that?

Jeff, she had "If You Were My Love" and "I Call You Missing" from Street Angel in 1995, and would taunt me with them. This is BEFORE we all got the Street Angel "If You Were My Love" in 1997. I finally ignored her, but in Late 1999, she contacted me again, and she DEFINITELY had ACTUAL 1996~1999 recordings that Stevie done. She quoted from them, played snippets for me, PROMISED them to me, and then never came through. One song from 1999 Stevie wrote after JFK, Jr. died. I forget the other titles. "What Would You Do?" was one (not that recent song some guys wrote on YouTube "inspired" by Stevie; this is an actual Stevie song), and one with a butterfly in the title, I think.

Wow... very interesting stuff. Hopefully some day it will crop up from someone.. maybe even Stevie herself. But yeah, that had to be really frustrating to have someone just dangling this stuff in front of you.. just out of reach of course.

Yeah, wasn't there a song title floating around called Desert skies, or Butterflies, or something that rhymes with that And BTW, I would KILL to hear "I Call You Missing" SA version or better yet RAL master version! But definitely would be really curious to see what they did with this during the SA sessions.
Sometimes knowing all this stuff is out there is torture. Thats why next time, we have to be more vigilant. I would have gladly paid more $ for the RAL work tapes, and been even more happy to share them with everyone. I'm kicking myself that I didn't get involved in bidding....

Hell, I cant count the amount of $$ I spent in the late 90's on ML crappy compilations on Ebay. I'm sure it was well over a thousand.

Don't talk to me (no pun intended). I'm in mourning for Chanel Chanel RAL...

So close, yet so far away she cried.

P.S. I believe the one we have is earlier than TISL i.e. early-mid 90's. Don't think she's referring to Crow.

Sheryl Louis didn't start repping Stevie until 1996. That's when the demos of "Planets Of The Universe", "It's Only Love", and "Annabel Lee" were done. Still the TISL era, even if it's not Crow.

Power issue. It's like she is saying to us, "I'm a bigger fan because I have stuff you don't".

You never know with labeled tapes. In 2004, when we bought the Street Angel Masters of February 1993 and had them transfered, "I Call You Missing" was on the tape's track listing (yes, so was "Love Is Like A River" ~ they're not the same song), but it was not on the tape. Also, several Master Reels were labeled "Christian" yet never were they recordings of "Christian", but instead were always mislabeled tapes of "Gypsy", "Sanctuary", etc. In fact, one tape said "Christian (fast tempo)". Or "Upbeat".

So, I'm wondering if "Why Are We Doing This Again?" is really the alternate title of "Long Way To Go". That would certainly fit better than "Not A Matter Of The Heart", which definitely seems like "Love Don't Fail Me Now". Stevie's very first copyright for "Long Way To Go" in 1984 is under the title "Have Fun, Tell The World". And tape labels have proven to not always be correct.

Just speculating... in my sickness...

Going off track here but I just wanted to throw this out: Does anyone else think that Long Way to Go is a response to Joe Walsh's "I'll Tell The World About You"? This song was released in '85 so it could have been written in '84 and Stevie was aware of it and so she retaliated with "Have fun, tell the world" when he pissed her off?

So, wouldn't that same seller have copies of what he just auctioned?

No, he's selling the Master Reel To Reels, right? Those take a lot of studio work to transfer. Or is he just selling Maxell Cassettes?

Totally! I remember reading an article somewhere where she talked about this. Just tried to find it and all I could find was this quote -

BBC Interview with Nicky Horne ~ August 27, 1991
"What happened at the end was I was getting ready to cut two songs with Waddy Wachtel producing and we only had two nights to rehearse and Joe had been off in New Zealand or something and he came down about one or two in the mornting or something and he was real good friends with everyone in my band. That would have been fine any other night but I was really angry with what Joe had done because he completely screwed up that session. He just had everyone dying laughing because he just tells a hundred jokes and everyone was just rolling in the floor laughing and I was going “this is not fair” because he is not being sensitive at all to this whole situation and “you know I would give up anything for you, even my damned career for you if he was serious enough." I had a limousine and I asked Joe if he wanted to take me home or come home with him and he said, “well, I didn’t tell you this but I’m leaving for Australia like tonight and I have to pack so I’m just going to get a ride home with Waddy” and I said “ok” and started walking towards the door and I turned around and said “Joe I don’t like where this relationship is going cause it’s not going anywhere and I don’t want to do it anymore.” And I started walking towards the door and he said “well you know, if you walk out the door, you basically cease to exist.” And I just din't stop walking."

(That last line, incidentally, sounds like that awesome Love Is Like a River outtake- "walked out that door/just started walking".) Anyway I don't think this is the quote I was looking for exactly, because I remember her saying something about him being in a different city from where she was and he called her and asked if she would drive down to where he was, and she, having the feelings described above, said "That's a real long way to go to say goodbye," then hung up and wrote the song. Anybody know where I could be remembering this is from? :::going to search more:::

Edit-- Oh, except according wikipedia that JW song came out in '72. He did say the whole album The Confessor ('85) was about Stevie, though.
