I just think this one looks less artificial than that one, which is not a criticism of RAL.

Comparatively speaking, it just strikes me that the IYD picture is no more unusual than past covers. So, I don't think they suddenly got desperate due to Stevie's age.

I didn't like the RAL cover. To me she just looked spaced-out. I didn't hate it, but it's definitely not one of my favorites. She did express some motion in the photo, that was kinda nice.

Like others here, I noticed her face looked off... when I saw the picture in reduced size, it looked to me like her left eye (to our right) is much lower than it should be... that's what stuck out to me. My theory is the image has been distorted, but I'm not sure it has been mirrored horizontally. I opened it up in Photoshop and tried to play with it, to make it look more natural... here is what I came up with (tilting the image towards us from the top, and then tilting it towards us from the right side of the image).

Here is the result... not perfect, but I think a little closer to reality:

And here is the image mirrored, for anyone that thinks it may have been flipped... although this would mean her hair was parted (on the top) opposite of the way it usually is, right?

Ha! Yea the magnified image makes her face look pretty cartoonish.

Luckily, most of us won't be using a magnifying glass to critique the photo when the album comes out.

Oh I know.. I just thought it would be fun to try and undo what was done to the perspective of the image.

Surely this is meant to look like you are looking at it through a mirror? It has that slightly distorted look to it which is intentional (look at the dimensions of the horse - it has been stretched out too) rather than the byproduct of an overly zealous Photoshop job.

I love the ethereal, dreamlike imagery. I got a very 'Legend' feel from it too! The earthy tones and tinting to create a yellowy light is gorgeous, very fitting for Stevie. The photo probably doesn't resemble Stevie when she first wakes up in the morning, but since when has Stevie Nicks been about creating stark realities? She has always played up the surreal fantasy of her artistic persona. This is no different.

A classy effort that is worthy of a legend (pardon the pun).

I have to say I'm liking the lens flare effect on her covers. They used the same effect on the Planets of the Universe cover and I loved that cover. It's not that easy of effect to perfect.

So if her face looks distorted because of the bubble, then why looks the horse completely normal?

This is from Kristin Burns. She took and worked on the cover photo.

Suddenly,

It gets more distored toward the center of the bubble. Not distorsted at all on edges.
