This is in response to Bluegrass's inquiries into Stevie's silicone & coke rumours.

She told an interviewer that she had the implants put in in the '70s because EVERYBODY was getting them. (Again, "Mr. I'll never go Hollywood"John McVie was too cool to have the surgery, I guess. ) I think they got huge as she gained weight over the years. The I Can't Wait video clip that Dave Letterman used to run, she's about to fall out as her head goes back and forth. In the Red Rocks video, as she tries to release the dove, it looks like her breasts are ready to take flight alongside. (Maybe those are the three birds of Rhiannon. ) By Street Angel, she looked like her old leg warmers were stuffed in there. But size isn't what got them kicked out. When Leaked implants became the news rage (think Jenny Jones crusade, I think just after Street Angel tour), Stevie went to 9 doctors (by her own account), each of whom told her to leave them in, not to be paranoid, that they were fine. Stevie insisted on their surgical removal, and the surgery revealed that the implants were completely broken & had leaked all over. Stevie now blames her Epstein-Barr problems on the twins breaking their bonds rather than staying put like they were supposed to. BTW, looking at TOSOTM tourbook in the past, I remember thinking Lori's had to be fake as well. I haven't seen her enough to tell if hers are gone, too.

The cocaine/roadie rumour to my knowledge was last brought up in a one-page interview in a rock magazine, I forget which one. I know a younger male musician was conducting this Q & A. It was in the Street Angel Days. I remember in the interview, he asked her about rumors of lesbianism/ reciprocating Sandra Bernhardt (sp?) & Stevie responded, "No, I like men too much." Then he asked her if the rumor was true that in the '80s, she would have a male roadie blow coke through a straw into "a certain orifice." The interview said in brackets that there was "dead silence" from Stevie when he asked that. She said "Eight years sober, and the rumors still get passed around." That's how I remember when the magazine came out. I haven't read this since 1994 when it was published, so this is all from mmory, but I hope another poster can fill in gaps & correct me where I'm wrong.

By the way, I always thought this coke rumor was complete BS, but non-fans have asked me about it over the years. For me, this interview is memorable that this guy would even ask Stevie a question like that, knowing how she does tend to be private about sex talk and foul language. I'm inclined to think it was a phone interview, or she might have smacked him with a tambourine.

Thanks, strandinthewind. I remember the pic, that she looked thin. But I didn't like the nightgown (in the days before Blackdress), and I remember Stevie looked like Olive Oyle - something in the eyes. Also, her skin had this purplish hue (from candle light?) but her hair looked yellowish. And the top of her head had this knit thing like it's her bar mitzvah day.
This is all from memory, so I'm clicking over now to see if what I'm picturing is accurate. Also, I'm curious to check who conducted the interview.

I like the Dixie Chicks' version of Landslide. Not as good as the original, but it's good.

I can't wait to hear Rhiannon and Dreams in concert. So what if they're not what they used to be, I still like them.

Stevie's lyrics make sense to me. All of them. No, I am not crazy or high right now.

Lindsey is way more self indulgent in his songwriting than Stevie. Just listen to the Tusk album.

Go Your Own Way has never really done that much for me. The guitar solo is not bad, but the lyrics are... meh.

I don't want them to do any Buckingham-Nicks stuff in concert, with the possible exception of Crystal. Stevie just doesn't have the voice for it anymore.

I have not purchased VBOFM and unless I win the lottery or something, I don't plan on purchasing it.

I like Mick. His crazy business tactics aside, he's always fun to watch live, when Lindsey and Stevie look like they're bored to death.

Stevie and Lindsey are not going to get together and they were never meant to be together. Their personalities are incongruous. I'm surprised they've gotten this far without verbal insults, writing nasty songs about each other, physical violence, and breaking up the band... oh, wait...

The loss of Chris on SYW is more of a loss than was Lindsey on Behind the Mask. At least on BTM they got Rick and Billy for Lindsey.

SYW will go platinum and critics will say it was a flop.

SYW will be the last Fleetwood Mac album with Lindsey and Stevie. Fleetwood Mac will cease to be a living entity at the conclusion of this tour.

Well, as long as I'm here, I'll spout more unpopular opinions.

I love the FM Live album. My favorite version of Rhiannon is on it, not to mention Fireflies. (Tip to Stevie: Drop the Christine songs that are supposed to be a tribute to her and do Fireflies instead. At least the lyrics fit the idea of a tribute, and people won't be comparing your voice to a voice that sounds NOTHING LIKE YOURS!)

I can see how Lindsey sees this paradox in Stevie's prudishness out of the blue. Around the time she trashed the BN cover in interviews, how she was crying in the pic & she regrets doing it, she does this kitten pose for The FM Greatest Hits album, leaning on a rug in front of a tusk (!) with her breasts prominently squeezed together like they're Lori and Sharon clinging to her for a photo-op. (I forgot to mention this black and white pic in the post above about the evolution of her silicone valley.)

I was just naive enough to hope that the live 1998 Enchanted Gold and Braid would be comparable to the HBO concert special from 1982, dancing and all. (Hey, it's not like she can't high kick anymore, but what WAS I thinking! Even the instruments lacked energy in the '98 version.)

I like BTM, and on Time I like Winds of Change and All over Again, hate Nights in Estoril, and think Hollywood is TOOOOO long.

Stevie never knew she loved Lindsey that much until he made it clear to her he was "Never Goin Back Again." She wanted to get out of the relationship even before they joined FM, but after she left him she knew she had made one of the biggest mistakes of her life. She made a lot of them, but that was the first in a long line of mistakes that sealed her fate and she knows it and is trying to live with it the best she can.

ITA with all of this. I love Stevie, but I totally don't buy her "it was all about him" line from the BN days. Stevie would NEVER have been content to "stand back" lol and she wanted to make it SO badly. I also agree that an element that made it easier for Stevie to leave Lindsey was that she no longer had her fortunes tied to him as she did when he spearheaded Buckigham Nicks. I think that if "Rhiannon" had flopped then she would have stayed with him, but she just got too full of herself. Now THAT'S an unpopular opinion, and yet I love Stevie! She jsut made some really bad decisions, as you said.

I think "child" in this context is used as a term of endearment... such as Axl Rose singing "Sweet Child O' Mine," or the line, "wake up, my sweet child," that Brett Michaels wrote in "Love's A Hard Game To Play."

It seems Stevie chose the word "child" (as opposed to "Beautiful Darling," or "Beautiful Angel," or whatever else it could have been), because she'll always see the man in question as youthful (and a reminder of that time in her life).

That she later admits she's "not a child anymore," shows that she realizes what they had in their youth is gone now... they're both older, and he has moved on from her.

As I said in the first post, she knows he'll still always be a part of her (first loves usually are), but she realizes that she's now "old enough to love (him) afar."

Anyway, that's my take on it!

For sure, both of them spent a great deal of time with their heads in the clouds and coke spoons up their noses (and elsewhere...hehe...as another post mentions.) Does that make them compatible for marraige? Maybe as rehab roomies or bretheren at a commune, but man and wife? Happily ever after? Then why didn't they do it? What was stopping them after 1987?

5. Don't really like long guitar solos or long drum solos but believe that it's some sort of asserting maleness thing that has to happen. Wish they could coordinate those with costume changes for Stevie, since I hate those too.

Great guitar on ISA, how can you not like it? I agree about LB's material taking time to appreciate. OOTC is brilliant and anyone who likes LB the least bit should listen to it and see how great he really is in playing, production, variety of style, vocal overdubs, he's just amazing. His lyrics made sense on most of the songs, too! Stevie's lyric writing was better when she was younger. She made more sense then, mostly in a poetic way. Now when she's out in lala land she wants us to think everything she says is poetry of some kind. Ah yea, right.

7. I don't think I'd like any of them as people if I met them...too self-invoved, except for John who is too beaten down.
Hate to say it, but I agree with you on this. I think I could get along well with all of them, but I'm not sure I'd like to. I think if Stevie were more honest with herself about the past and she didn't always play up the martyr/peacemaker idea of herself, I'd like her better. I'd really like to be her shrink! If she got real with herself I think she'd be awesome. Lindsey is a guy and guys are hopeless anyway. Mick and John often remind me of those bums I try to avoid at the intersections with the "will work for food " signs.
