DISCUSSION: Stevie's songs from Tango in the Night

I'm a bit suprised at the lack of respect/enjoyment of these tracks by so many people.

Tango top to bottom is a much better album than Mirage, and while I would agree SN's contribution to the album was the weakest of the three writers there are some high points to these songs.

Seven Wonders---for me is the song I like the least on TITN. Not written by Stevie, this is FM trying to make a catchy Stevie tune for the album.

However, the other two contributions are quality attempts. We are all aware what Stevie was going through, and we clearly are not getting Sara/Beautiful Child etc. on this album. But she's also in a different place and luckily unlike some people is not just writing the same song album after album.

WTTRS--Lyrically seems to drift from very solid segments to very confusing segements (even on a SN scale). The fact that it's a half talk/sing type song i think adds value to it, and portrays confusion by the singer....do they really know what's going on. Plenty of build up in this song as it goes.

WISYA- Very good song....SN's vocals can drive you nuts...but to me that seems purposely done (at least to a degree). The alternate take on youtube is much smoother, making me feel as though they were trying to capture something and felt they did with her voice. Easily the best song lyrically, incredicbly deep, on par with a Storms if you ask me. And without question the LB portion of this song is the highest point on the album (outside of Little Lies). I probably have listen to the final minute of that song as many times as anything on that album......very high quality contribution. I think a lot of the mid-late 80's vibe is lost on us...even for those of us that lived through it. Some of it's understanding I think has faded away. I feel this is the best "band" centered album since Rumours, (and I believe Tusk is the best of thier albums) They went back to emphasizing eachother, even as they knew it was falling apart. Had this album been made in 80 or 81 it would've sounded completely different and we'd all be claiming it as one of the best ever.
