Aside from running the local vampire music scene (ok, now I'll stop), Neptoon has a killer selection of records all based on owner Rob Friths personal collection. He has created the kind of store that caters to most tastes, yet still feels like you're sorting through someone's (Rob's) personal record collection. The store has a large dollar bin section if you're in the mood for any record by The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band or Stevie Nicks post Fleetwood Mac (which are both in curious abundance) as well as some rare (awesome!) but expensive (****.) vintage singles and limited edition LPs. The store also specializes in psych punk, ska and garage, and supports local bands such as The Orpheans by holding all ages in-store concerts on a regular basis.

While Portland parents are conferencing about whether to hand out organic, fair-trade chocolate bars or something more mentally enriching—like miniature Origami Kits—to trick-or-treaters this year, I am stressed about how to make a clear distinction between a Stevie Nicks costume and that of your prototypical witch.

Despite my strict childhood diet of spaghetti-os and Rumours on repeat, Stevie Nicks scared the **** out of me. I envisioned Fleetwood Mac as an ill-willed society of devil worshippers with Nicks as its sinewy leader; a growling woman clad in layers of black organza who sang songs about gypsies and witches and chains and never, ever smiled.

I had recurring nightmares in which Nicks was found strangling the hell out of The Little Mermaid (my musical idol at the time) after she sang "Rhiannon" off-key. Which almost totally happened in real life!

Anyways, now that I've finally overcome my fear of the Gold Dust Woman (after a mere 15 years and an hour-long episode of Behind The Music: Fleetwood Mac), I would like to be her for Halloween. But what if people think I'm just a boring witch who parked her broom out back? That's annoying. How does one make it obvious? Do I need a Lindsey Buckingham to beat on? A molehill of cocaine meant to be ingested rectally? Help!

A few problems … but you can’t deny Stevie …
I first got into Fleetwood Mac back in 1997 when they were on the Dance Tour. My mother was totally excited because they would be performing at the Pepsi Arena, here in Albany, NY, on Thanksgiving Eve … so of course we went. I was HOOKED from that day forward. For Christmas that year my mother got me Stevie’s greatest hits album, Timespace, and then I went from being hooked to being OBSSESSED!

In 1999 I got the Red Rocks concert and I loved it. Actually, at this point in my life, I was in the middle of losing 60 pounds, so every night for months on the stationary bike I would watch the show.

Perhaps the only problem I might have NOW with the show is that not EVERY song performed that night in 1986 are included on the disc, like “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around,” “Sara,” and “I Can’t Wait.” These probably weren’t included for obvious Stevie reasons, being, for one, that “Sara” is a very personal song to her and she’s always reluctant to perform it in front of people, not to mention that it, like “I Can’t Wait,” turned out MUCH better on recording and didn’t transfer to stage all that well. But seeing that this Rock a Little Tour was the only in which she performed “I Can’t Wait,” it would have made the disc more of a collector’s item … and thus a better concert.

A difficult time in her life……
I am a tried and true fan of Stevie Nicks. But, I must be honest, I was embarassed for her when I watched this concert video. She was nearing the end of a very dangerous drug and alcohol addiction. In fact, I have read that after this concert, she checked herself into a rehab. The setting was absolutely magical. The dove landing on her hand and not wanting to leave was symbolic and beautiful. As far as her performance, her voice never fails her, but she was screaming and sometimes singing in gibberish. I must say her first taped concert during the Bella Donna tour was superb in comparison! Apologies to other true fans like me, but I cannot lie about my opinion even though I love Stevie Nicks.

Good Video
Not the best Stevie Nicks Video I have ever seen, but far from the worst. Stevie’s etherial beauty and rich vocals come out wonderfully. In my opinion, there is too much pan and scan of things I’m not interested in, ie: anything but Stevie and the Band. Waddy on guitar, and Lori, Sharon, and Elisecia on backup vocals were marvelous. I’m sure you will hear some people whine about “she doesn’t follow the lyrics from the album” DUH! this IS live music, and besides, these are HER songs, so she can change the words to suit her. Anyway, she could sing random words from the dictionary, and I would probably enjoy hearing it.
