This is going to sound really, really weird, but Stevie's flaws are a big part of what draws me to her. I think this is mostly because it allows me to justify my own ****ty decisions to be quite honest. But more importantly, it makes me feel a little more confident in certain values that I have that are controversial-- "seize the day," necessary selfishness, etc. Also, I love that Stevie can almost redefine herself through her creative work, depicting her experiences in the way that she sees them. You study "Gold Dust Woman" and "Kick It" and suddenly, you can have a completely new perspective on Stevie's drug use. "Sara" and "Goodbye Baby" shed a little light on the abortions. As a writer, I appreciate her ability to work through things in a creative way. Don't get me wrong-- I do NOT approve of anyone getting four abortions. But I must admit that I am as intrigued with her flaws and insecurities as I am with her strengths.
I totally agree with you about her flaws being a draw and by being intrigued with her insecurities. To me she puts so much of herself out in the open in her music. I mean, look into her lyrics as far as you want, but I swear I get something without looking to hard. Flaws, insecurities, rights, wrongs, heartaches that drive me mad, etc. Maybe I just totally understand Stevie more than anyone else.... *sigh*

Sometimes I have to remind myself that she is a real live person and not some sort of higher power. She's a rock star and I like her A LOT but she's still a person and she poops. Everyone Poops. Poop seems to put things in perspective for me.

I do admit that I have wondered who all impregnated her and when these terminations occured. I wonder if she appeared impregnatated ... None of my business but half the things I know are none of my business.

Couple more things to throw out there on this subject...

-Stevie may have had to have abortions due to not being able to carry to term.
-Based on staetements by Matt Baumann, director of the DR doc, about the recording of GB, it is safe to assume Stevie lost/aborted/miscarried whatever a child with Lindsey. I don't think that's too shocking, given their time together.

What statements? Also I think in the SA interview she was definently saying she had an abortion, not that she miscarried.

I'm a guy, but I have to believe that if a woman had a miscarriage she would say she had a miscarriage. Stevie's a celebrity, if she had a miscarriage then she would get this outpouring of support and sympathy. Yet, if she had an abortion that has the opposite effect on some people. So I don't think she would say abortion if she meant miscarriage, if anything it would be the other way around.
The problem is there are many fans, not just of Stevie but of many celebrities, who put these people on a pedestal and don't want to think of them as having any faults. Stevie has never claimed to be a perfect angel. She has said that she lived the rock and roll life and lived it to the fullest AND she wouldn't change a thing. This is why if and when her book ever comes out I think many fans may be in for a real shock. That may also be why she keeps putting it off. For years she said when she was 60 and retired she would put the book out, but she's still going and "people still care" so she can't just yet.

Stevie didn't say abortion in the article. That word did not come from her.

But I take your point anyway. If the quote is accurate and she did say she gave up 4 babies, then I would have to assume that she meant abortion, not miscarriage. You never make a choice to give up a fetus when you miscarry.

But, she could have been forced to terminate the pregnancies for medical reasons...I'm just saying that it's possible and maybe even probable...

Not quite sure I'd go that far.

Being "too busy" is not a medical condition. Clearly her abortions were voluntary; otherwise she would have made it clear that her pregnancies ended for other reasons. What I find more puzzling than anything else is that, given the calibre of her gentlemen callers, i.e., rock groupie poon hounds, what was she thinking when she was hiding the salami without protection? And considering her familiarity with pills and her access to script-friendly docs, surely she must have had easy access to birth control pills (and for practical reasons, they would have been useful for restricting/normalizing her menstrual cycle while on the road). At least Stevie is owning her mistakes and her tough decisions in this article rather than blaming the rest of the world. Given her vaunted status and the questionable state of her mind at the time, that is rather commendable.

Matt Baumann:
Quote:
"There were many emotional moments between the band members. obviously the scene were Lindsey sheds a tear or two talking to Stevie about how much this project means to him. one of the more emotional moments made it to the film and that was when Stevie and Lindsey recorded "Goodbye Baby". That was shot very quietly late at night and due to the subject matter, was a very private and personal moment between those two."
I didn't hear the SA interview so I don't know.

Just pointing out the fact that the term abortion is used in the medical field for miscarriage, that the Vox article was written in Europe and they may have been accustomed to using the proper terminology, and that it is highly possible that Stevie could not carry to term (for a variety of reasons - her drug use being the most obvious to us). She talked about really wanting kids and in several articles around that time she was considering adoption. It's certainly plausible that she wanted kids and couldn't have them. I don't think that's something she would have necessarily shared with the public - especially if it was the most painful, personal thing in her life. Or even her decisions to abort which she later regretted or regretted the circumstances. It seems she was definitely going through a lot of reflecting and maybe wishing some things were different for her at that time.

At any rate, I'm glad she got through it and seems to be happy with where she is now.

I agree with you that meanings could have been lost in the translation. The way this interview reads, I think they were.

I also think that Stevie wanted children badly, most especially when she started approaching the age when she was too old to have them. She did talk about adopting and even gave us a potential name for the kid.

But I don't know if she ever wanted to be pregnant and to go through the physical changes that would mean. And she seems like the type who would love to publicly tell anyone if she was physically unable to have children. While many women wouldn't talk about it, I think that's a pain Stevie would be glad to share, as opposed to always saying her career never allowed her to do it. I think she would like the tragic heroine aspect the revelation would give her. Kind of like those gothic comments she made about her and Rupert never being able to be together, for reasons having nothing to do with love.

No, Stevie doesn't poop. You are confusing her with someone else. As I told my Bible Study Teacher two weeks ago, "Stevie is one step down from God."

I'm not sure about you but to have four abortions is very distasteful. At that number you could almost consider it as birth control. No matter how much I love Stevie I don't think that can be excused.
