There's a major card they've forgotten, the most important card in the deck: the ass kissing/sell your soul/stab your own flesh and blood in the back card. That, above all others, has dictated promotions more than any other thing in my professional experience. Regarding new hires, it's all about who you know, and again, whose asses you're kissing. Unless you're in a very specific field (such as healthcare/attorney/etc which require certifications), education doesn't matter either. From my experience, looks don't really matter one iota in the professional field UNLESS you're some sort of a figurehead/spokesperson/etc. I have to file this particular article under the "B.S. NEWSWEEK says to get attention" heading .

Well, I dont kiss anyone's ass, and I especially will never sell myself out to get ahead so I guess I'll just be me, which I'm more than happy with, whether that leads to advancements in my job or not.

Things like this make me glad I work from home over the Interweb. No one can see when I forget to brush my hair for 3 weeks or don't bother to put on pants and they have to just judge me based on the merits of my actual work. Madness!

All the same, baby. All the same.

"You never know what I'll do. I've resequenced my show. I'm a master at sequencing. I'm the one who sequenced for Fleetwood Mac. I sequenced 'Rumours.' Everyone loves my sequences. They're fun.''
