Stevie's SYW songs

She ROCKS on this album, and overall...her 9 are better than TISL overall (I LOVE TISL, Sorcerer, POTU, I Miss You, FFG and Bombay Sapphires the most, the others..eh). Here are my takes on them fave to least fave:

Everybody Finds Out: HOLY CRIPES..does this song ROCK or what??? I didn't know WHAT to expect from this song because I had read all of the reviews but I didn't hear the song until I got SYW and I went "WOAH!!" when it came on!! I love her "I do have him" and the way she says the word I...it's this IN YOUR FACE ATTITUDE!!

Smile at You: GOOD GRIEF, this song is awesome. I love the lyrics, the production, the aaahhhh's and that guitar at the very end!! You can tell Lindsey's been influenced by Chinese music!! That ticking sound is neat!!

Destiny Rules: I like the countryish flavor. Love the guitar in this!! I like the way she says country. This should be played on country stations!! It's a HIT people!!!!

Illume: WOW...this is one of the most unique songs I've ever heard!! I thought for SURE this would be a ballad...NOPE!!

Thrown Down: I never liked the demo, too slow and plodding...this version's got kick to it and I love it now!! There's some sort of clicking sound in the song....what IS that?? LOL I love Lindsey's bgv's!!

RTTG: I loved the demo and I love this one too...I like the way she says toxic. Lindsey's bgv's are cool too!!!! Guitar solo!! WOOO!!

SYW: I like the kids (??) at the end...it's wierd and unusual, and you don't expect that. CATCHY chorus too!!

Goodbye Baby: Great lullaby by Miss Stevie. It's sad and heartbreaking.

Silver Girl: The lyrics don't knock me over, but the production, I like! I really like the beat and music.

Everybody Finds Out is awesome! I love the way she says that line "I do have him" too. I also agree with you about the in your face kind of attitude. Rockin' song!

Smile At You is a great song! I love everything about it.

Destiny Rules is pretty catchy too. I find myself singing it in the middle of the day.. lol

Illume.. I was so totally expecting a ballad along with you. It is a very different song.. and am so glad it isn't one of those sappy memorial kind of songs. I really like it a lot!

Thrown Down... I like this version, but loved the other FM version better. The guitar was rockin'. However, it is still a great one!

RTTG.. I absolutely love everything about this song.

Say You Will is totally catchy and I love the guitars on it.

Goodbye Baby is absolutely one of the saddest songs I've ever heard. Very heartbreaking and I've never heard Stevie's voice sound so vulnerable. Love it!!

Silver Girl.. I like it.

Here is my take (in no particular order except for EBFO):

Everybody Finds Out: Incredible - it has everything imagery (dark, light, love), in your face attitude, and a danceable beat. My guess (and suggestion) is they replace Stand Back live with this one. I love the synth strings at the end and the last time she belts "MIDnight plane" in a register she doesn't use that often these days :laugh"

Smile at You: Did not care for the demo - love the final product

Destiny Rules: Like the lyrics - the delivery is growing, albeit slowly on me.

Illume: LB's guitar in the beginning is incredible. I could have lived without the silly voice effect near the end and, I hate admit it, I fast forward the "trade you for jade" section because although I get what she is saying, I just do not like the way it sounds on delivery

Thrown Down: I, too, never liked the demo (too slow and plodding and flat awful boring delivery). I must say LB's guitar riff and La Nicks' new lyrics and potent delivery saved the day on this sleeper.

RTTG: I like it. I has grown ( ) in me. I love her vocal on this one and her delivery is quite passionate.

SYW: I love the first part, but wonder why she chose to repeat the chorus like six times in the last half of the song instead of writing a third set of lyrics. But, I do like it the way it is - child voices and all.

Goodbye Baby: Breathtaking. I do, however, wish she had kept the "when you hold yourself and know that there were two and now only you remain" line instead of changing it to "I who went to sleep as two woke up as one and now only you remain" (which I also love don't get me wrong)

Silver Girl: I really like it including the lyrics and do not find them silly (hey - I also like the forgotten chimp line!!!). I do not like the repeat of the same line like six times at the end but get the mysterious fading effect she was going for.

All in all a solid effort. Also, her harmony on Miranda and Say GoodBye is perfect.

My Opinions:

Illume: this song has grown on me. i actually like the way she says "ill-um-ay". i have to admit tho, i do get distracted by the "nag champRa".

Thrown Down: as much as i loved the demo, i love the final product even more!! lindsey did some amazing things to it. and the vocals rock!

Say You Will: i really like this one. it's got a VERY catchy chorus,lol, i always have it stuck in my head. i also think she sounds great.

Smile At You: i never heard the demo, so i don't really have anything to compare it to. for me, this song is just kind of there. i don't dislike it at all, but it doesn't really stick out and catch my attention.

RTTG: at first, this one didn't catch my attention either. but as i listened to the album more, i discovered that it ROCKS! i *love* the way she says "Turn around". it's so upbeat and powerful; i really hope they do it at the concerts!

Silver Girl: it's ok. i think the chorus is cute. overall, i don't think it's that great of a song tho.

Everybody Finds Out: lyrics-rock music-rocks vocals:rock everything about this song is good. it's not one of my absolute favorites tho. i don't really know why; it's a great song in all aspects.

Destiny Rules: honestly, i do not remember what this song sounds like....and i heard it probably 20 minutes ago. that can't be a good sign for me, and/or for the song,lol.

Goodbye Baby: so sad....this one is heartbreaking. the vocals are perfect. it's totally different from the demo, but i like it.

in order from Favorite to least favorite.

1. SMILE AT YOU- Man at first i didn't like it THAT much because of "The Spectre of the demo" but now i much perfer this version and it's my Favorite song on the CD, with Destiny Rules just a hair away.

2. DESTINY RULES- This one's BY FAR the most CLASSIC MAC. It sounds like a time capsul to the whit album/Rumours era. And that's what i want, not saying i don't want some rocking or experimental in there, but this guitar and the lyrics and her delivery is just WOW. I LOVE this song. Could very easily be #1 at cetain times.

3. ILLUME- Love love love this one. That opening guitar riff is magical. I love the way she sings the first 50 seconds of the song. And the chourus is just plain haunting especially at the end. But my favorite part is the I wouldn't trade you for jade of diamonds part.

4. RUNNIGN THROUGH THE GARDEN- I wish i could say more, but i just have one word "ROCKS".

5. THROWN DOWN- next to Destiny Rules, this is the most classic mac. Except DR is more Rhiannon/GDW while TD is more Gypsy. Love htis one to death to. And I'd like to add that i HATED both the demo and the wall of sound version we got in January. So lindsey done good here. I really love his Together, Together, Together part.

6. EVERYBODY FINDS OUT- I'd like to put it higher, but there's too much competition. The end of this song is my favorite. When she says EVERYBODY FINDS OUT and those crazy strings start screaming

7. GOODBYE BABY- So Beautiful and soothing. It took me awhile to adjust to the voice but once i did i foun this magical.

8. SAY YOU WILL- Not at all bad, VERY CATCHY. Love the way she says FEVER dance. And also love the solo in the middle

9. SILVER GIRL- OK this song is also NOT BAD AT ALL, in fact i like it more and more each day. I especially love the chourus.

Everybody Finds Out: For some reason the music isnt growing on me for this song...But I like the lyrics...

Say You Will: Now this song has been catchy ever since I heard the clip on the TV for a FOX TV-Show...Probably one of my 3 favorite songs on the album!!

Destiny Rules: Now this is my favorite song album-wise...A great song that has a classic rock vibe to it!!!

Illume: The more I listen the more I love this track...If it would have been a ballad I dont think I would've like it as much...

Thrown Down: A good track...Not great but definitely a good one

RTTG: Reminds me of "RAL" era Stevie, Not a bad track...

Smile At You: Great tune that has grown on me to the point that I now enjoy it as much as the demo versions...I was thrown back at the music the first time I heard this track

Goodbye Baby: Very personal track for Stevie, Just a bit too slow of a pace for me...But I do like this song

Silver Girl: Like the melody, But I really cannot get into the song

In no particular order....

Illume: Ehhh....it's okay. Not one of my favorite Stevie songs. Maybe it'll grow on me. Nice sentiment, though.

Thrown Down: LOVE it. I really liked the demos to this song, but love it now twice as much. Love the whole "shaken the faith" part.

Say You Will: Like it alot. It is kinda catchy. And I love the kids, lol.

Smile At You: It's growing on me. I made myself quit listening to the angry demo. I'm still upset about that, but oh well. I'm trying to see it as a different song. I think I'll eventually like it. lol.

Running Through The Garden: This song KICKS @$$!!! I LOVE IT! Stevie's voice, the lyrics, John's bass, Lindsey's solos. This song ROCKS!

Silver Girl: Sorry, Stevie. I just DO NOT like this song. Ugh.

Everybody Finds Out: Woohoooo! Goooo, Stevie! LOVE this song, too, *almost* as much as RTTG. RTTG beats it only because of the music. The lyrics to this one just blow my mind. lol.

Destiny Rules: Awesome. Love the lyrics and Lindsey's guitar. Another catchy one that I find myself singing throughout the day.

Goodbye Baby: My favorite on this album. Ranks right up with Storms as one of my favorite ever Stevie songs. Beautiful song, and it breaks my heart.

Is Goodbye Baby really what I think about... and was Stevie the person who had that personal experience?

She once said her songs and music are about personal experiences or experiences that happened to those close to her... so I wasnt sure. On the Mac page someone referenced this song was about her and she was the individual who that happened too... but wasnt sure.

Can someone fill me in? Wanted to ask here in Stevie's corner...

I'm blown away by Stevie's 'Say You Will' tracks.
She wrote some really terrific songs for this project, and she sounds utterly amazing.

As I've said, I really dig her lower-register now... I think it adds so much texture to everything surrounding it.
Granted her voice has always done that... but the vibe it creates now is spine-tingling.

I'm impressed that she stepped up to bat, filling in for Christine, and contributed one of Fleetwood Mac's catchiest songs ever, in the form of "Say You Will."

"Thrown Down"... "Destiny Rules"... Stevie still has a knack for writing songs that seem like they could be pulled from the pages of MY journal.

"Illume"... this one blows me away. I can feel the pain and fear and anger in Stevie's voice and lyrics... as well as resignation and a quiet hope.

"Everybody Finds Out"... this is a balls-out rocker (pardon the expression), and Stevie unleashes so much vigor the listener is practically out of breath by the end. Probably some of the most brash lyrics she's ever written.

"Silver Girl" is growing on me.
I actually liked the lyrics a lot when I read them a few weeks ago, but was let down by the slow tempo and production.
This would have been so much more effective as an upbeat, fun kinda tune.
As a ballad, it's a tad mundane... but again, it's growing on me.

"Not Make Believe"... loved the demo to this, and I love the finished product as well.
I think everything about it is perfect, and Stevie's lyrics and voice convey exactly the right sense of healing, as she looks back over a tumultuous relationship.

I'm probably one of very few people who wasn't head over heels in love with the demos of "Smile At You" and "Goodbye Baby," even though they're great songs lyrically.
But I'm very pleasantly surprised by the finished products.
Stevie unleashes some killer vocals on both tracks, at completely opposite ends of the spectrum.

And "Running Through The Garden"... I've loved this one since the first time I heard a really lousy-quality copy of the demo.
I'm thrilled it made it to an album... though I would have never in a million years guessed it would be a Fleetwood Mac album, as this has "solo album track" written all over it!

All in all, I am VERY pleased with Stevie's contributions to 'Say You Will.'
18 years after I became a "die-hard" fan, she still excites, impresses, and thrills me, with her new music.

Many fans feel strongly that it is indeed about what you're thinking.

Other fans feel that it's part of Stevie's "Rhiannon Saga," and recounts the punishment Rhiannon endured for falling in love with, and becoming pregnant to, a mortal man.
She was banished, and her child was taken from her.

Knowing Stevie, it could be about both.
When working from a literary reference (such as 'Beauty And The Beast,' or Nathaniel Hawthorne's short-story, 'Rappaccini’s Daughter'), she relates the subject matter to her own personal experiences.

Because of this, some critics consider Stevie's writing to be narcissistic and self-involved... but I find it to be introspective and extremely compelling.
And I feel that any songwriter worth their weight, should write songs that offer their listeners a glimpse into their psyche.

Thanks for the 411 Johnny. Her voice is so incredibly touching on Goodbye Baby, like a sweet non-forgotten lullabye on the wind. I am familiar with the Rhiannon story as well having read "The Legend of Rhiannon" and also "Triad". So it was interesting to read your interpretation and insight to how they could entwine.

I really like most all of Stevie's songs on SYW. Silver Girl is a wee slow for me, melancholy to the nines. But Im really enjoying Say You Will, Thrown Down, Illume & Running Through the Garden (for the moment, lol!)
