Default What Price Glory?

Ok this is the first thread thing I've started...
Monday morning at like 12 am I was looking through the channels on the tv and I came across a movie from 1926 called What Price Glory?
I knew that was a line in one of Stevie's songs and it took me awhile to finally figure out it was How Still My Love. It was late.
I liked the song before but now I can't get enough of it. I don't know but there is something about it I just love. I want to know how everybody else feels about this song.

And has anyone ever heard of the movie or seen it?

The people they love HSML. It's always been a fan favorite. Personally, it's a top 5 for me and the song was made to be performed live and linger on and on and on. I melt, cream, whatever when I hear it live. Oh ok I'll stop rambling now but HSML is simply brilliant both musically and lyrically. "YOU GO YOUR WAY BUT YOU DON"T FORGET ME! ".

P.S. I never knew about that movie...

Never seen/heard of it. I wonder if that's where she got that line from? I love that line. But sometimes I play around with it and change it to "what price Lori?" and think about how she put a pricetag on her at the US Fest. Or was that Sharon? Oh well.

Anyway, I wouldn't be surprised if she got this idea from the old movie...sorta like BATB.

unfortunately, i do not know any connection between the song and movie...

however, HOW STILL MY LOVE IS EFFING EPIC!

Honestly, though, i really love it. My favorite version right now is the Live in Chicago version. It sounds so sensual and has this aura that i just love, especially: "In the still of the night - UH UH!"

and of course, the best live 30 seconds ever: "Standing... in the doorway, Watching out to sea, Calling out to me, You go... your way, Go on - go on! But you don't forget me, Ooo no... you don't forget me...Oooo no... my lonely ONE!"

overall, it's a masterpiece and remains one of my all time favorite songs ever.

I echo your sentiments completely little sis! It really is brilliance and you know she was super stoned when she wrote it...

She doesn't have to be stoned to write well.

I don't remember saying she did but I believe she was when she wrote this. And you should know by now I'm just a tad sarcastic.

Sorry, the general idea that you have to be "super stoned" to write well just really bugs.

I didn't say that, that's what you interpreted my statement as meaning but it was nothing of the sort. I just find this song to be very hallucinogenic for a lack of better word and having the vivid imagination that I do the idea that she may have been stoned just popped into my head (not that I need to defend myself).

She probably did get that line from the title of the movie, because I know "In The Still Of The Night" and "How Still My Love" were both titles of books in her hotel that she never read.

I totally agree with you.
I first heard this song when I bought the Live in Chicago DVD and that was awesome.
I'm going to go and youtube some other videos of HSML now

I read about that before, but I couldn't remember where so I kept thinking I made those two books up.
I wonder if they are any good

Nope, you didn't make them up!

"I really don’t write extremely sexual songs, never have. I’m always going to write about the bouquets and the flowers [laughs]. But “How Still My Love” really is a sexy song, and being that it’s one of my few sexy songs, when we do it onstage it’s fun. It’s kind of woozy and it’s slow, but it’s got a really great beat—kind of a strip-tease, a little burlesque, a little Dita Von Teese-y. The title actually came from two different books I saw in some hotel, one was called How Still My Love and one was called In the Still of the Night, and I used both, but I never even opened up the books [laughs], so I have no idea what they were about. Whenever I come into a room with a library, in a hotel or whatever, I pull them all down and just sit—I get a lot of ideas that way."

And these are the only two books I could find that they could possibly be, but there isn't a synopsis for either :[

Stole words right out of my mouth... One of my faves hands down especially Live In Chicago.. The whole twirling the golden(?) shawl at the end.. Extremely Seductive and Sensual!

Oh and Sapphire Sister.. She was surely stoned when she wrote this.. The vibe is very sitting around a pipe in a circle of bean bags with a thick haze wafting through the air.. Being stoned really would help with creativity I imagine I'm not that creative but if I have a toke I sure can be lol.. But I'm sure it'd also do the opposite if taken in frequent copious amounts..

yeah these two books seem to be the only ones that could be possible.
both seem to be rare and collectible books that aren't printed anymore.

I found a signed copy of How Still My Love on ebay though
