So what are the SYW songs about???

Hi! I havent posted here in years...mainly lurk every now and then. I love reading everyone's opinions.
I just listened to the album and I love it...But I was wondering does anyone know for sure what/who the songs are about? I know that Silver Girl is about Sheryl, but the others? Is Thrown Down for sure about Lindsey. Just curious....

Well, Smile at You and Goodbye Baby are probably about Lindsey. Say You Will is about Christine. And someone on another forum interpreted Everybody Finds Out as Stevie and Mick's affair. Not sure 'bout Destiny Rules... Maybe an affair around Mirage or TOSOTM since there's a reference to spending time in a foreign country.

In that Toronto radio interview, Lindsey said that "What's the World Coming To?" is about the corporatization of Warner Bros. records and their unwillingness to release his solo album because they didn't like it. However, so far, every reviewer has interpreted it to be about 9/11...same w/ Peacekeeper, which was written before 9/11. Do all these so-called journalists think that the world was just peachy-keen, rainbows and candy, pre 9/11? Grrr!

Illume is a song Stevie wrote after the 9/11 tragedies since she was in NYC on 9/11. There were two others she wrote about it but quoting her via the nicksfix "they were too heavy".

Bleed to Love Her is about Kristen, correct? Not Anne. EW! LOL Now, Down On Rodeo MAY be about Anne...hence the "Can you hear me, Annie?" line if he is, in fact, saying Annie.

Okee folks..I've been singing this at work ALL DAY long and with the lyrics that I now know (which were NOT what I thought he was saying), I think I've figured out what this is about. Dang, it's hard to sing the RIGHT lyrics!! LOL I believe this song is Lindsey telling his mom it's okay to grieve for his father.

You know it just brings you down, it's just something you can touch (the gravestone? Going to the site depresses her?)

You don't belong here, I guess you never did. (Hmm...not sure about this line, she doesn't belong at the gravesite??)

Whisper murder in your ear, you just keep it so well hid.(MURDER!!?! WHAT??!!? LOL Can anyone explain this!?!? Her keeping her feelings and emotions hidden from the family. Perhaps, she was being strong and stoic for her boys, not showing her emotions in front of them? Some people are like that in the grieving process)

Anyone at all, could see what was missing (Dad was missing?)

Could see you were dyin', though no one was cryin' (She was dying inside after the loss of her husband, Lindsey's family seems REALLY REALLY close)

And the lips you were kissing, night after night (Self explanatory...mom kissing dad)

All were bathed in blue, all bathed in white (Blue and white from death..paleness perhaps?)

One of the quiet ones, one of the few (She is quiet and strong, not crying in front of others, not wailing and sobbing)

Now fall down onto your knees (I think this is a demand for her to cry out to God, to ask WHY her husband died so young, let it out, he's saying)

Show us all what you can do (Show the family that you are hurting like we are?)

We came around here, to see if you were well (The family went to see if mom was okay)

NOW, my original thoughts were that in the line about lips...I thought he was saying "And I did hear what you said, now I can die." Well, I'm an idiot. LOL

Wow, that's a really powerful interpretation - it makes much more sense than the one about his brother. It really makes sense of the song and conjures very real images. Very sad.... And yet the 'Red Rover...we come to take you over', sung really beautifully and softly with more peaceful music than the jagged verses... you really can imagine it's a depiction of everyone inevitably 'joining the side' of those who've passed away.

Well done Christy - you've just made it a whole new song for me! Hopefully Lindsey will be asked about it soon enough and will be able to confirm it or something very similar.

Oh and I'm pretty sure BTLH is not about Kirsten as always he said he wrote the first part at the beginning of a relationship and the last part after it's decline. So I suggested Anne because it seemed to have been around that time, but I''m not sure who else he went out with in that era.
