Why does Lindsey think that 80s synth helium voice is still cool?

It may not be conventional, but neither is the rest of the track and that's what I like about it. It reminds me of a snake's voice from cartoons or something. Maybe it's the 'diamond snake' speaking from the 'black sky'? Parts of the song do sound like a snake charmer melody with that weird instrument.

Anyway, it kind of caught me off guard at first but I like it now .

It's the only part of Illume that I don't like. Someone should take it from him and smash it.

I know it's typically said that Lindsey is still Stevie's best producer, but after hearing this new album, I'm not so sure about that anymore.

The helium clown voice on Illume, the blandness of Running Through The Garden...they don't compare to the power of Trouble In Shangri-La, Planets of the Universe, Fall From Grace etc...

I'm pretty sure that's Stevie's voice worked over. It sounds kind of like one of those rapper bits that pop artists will put into their song using a guest rapper. I kind of like it for the fact that it's so different for a Stevie song.

Wow, I totally disagree. Lindsey has gotten Stevie singing notes she hasn't sung in decades. Sure, Illume and Everybody Finds Out have some outrageous production, but it's as fresh and new as anything on the radio today. Like it or not, Lindsey can take her stuff and mold it like no one's business.

That totally ruins the song. Creeps me out and certainly takes my mind off the serious subject matter.

And the distorted accent sounds like Lindsey to me. Check out the pronounciation of "down." That's Lindseyian.

That song sounded pretty monotonous to begin with, and the voice sure breaks up the monotony.... and turns it into a curiousity piece! I can't stand listening to it.

Luckily the only other song I hate is "Silver Girl," which has the opposite problem of being too bland. Just got to stay away from the extremes!

And "Smile At You" is growing on me, but I think Lindsey went off on that one a little too much, too.

I will say that he has gotten her voice to sound better than ever, and he did a great job with "Thrown Down." I also like what he did with "Running Through the Garden" and "EFO" - although apparently that was Shanks. His own stuff is all stupendous, but I'm not sure he maximized Stevie this time on all of her music. Seems they might have been somewhat at cross-purposes.

You should_check out Keith Urban's album "Golden Road", John Shanks helped co-write 2 songs that have a definite TISL vibe...Matter of fact the first single ("Somebody Like You") has a Lindsey sounding guitar style/tone to it, Kinda ironic that Keith's primary guitar influence is Lindsey Buckingham and he has established a "creative partnership" with John Shanks...Brian "I'm Back" J.
