Thoughts on ‘Sometimes It’s Bitch’

I would have vomited to hear the edited single of "Edge of Seventeen" on TimeSpace. Chopping out the second verse ruins the song, and that does not belong on an official "Best Of".

The single version was on the Gap's in-store playlist in June 2002 where I work, and I just cringed to hear Stevie's song edited and forced to hear it that way twice a shift! Same the next month with "Stand Back"'s chop job!

Chris Lord-Alge did a superb job remixing many of the Classics, and I'd rather hear that than songs hacked up "for radio", as if listeners could not stand more than 3:30 a song... CLA's GLORIOUS remixing of "Rooms on Fire", with all the magic and sparkle VS. the single edit, which bizarrely slices out the beautiful mandolin after the first chorus.

Perhaps a collection with the "Radio Edits" would be nice, but not an official Greatest Hits package like TimeSpace. That's why I was glad the November 2006 "Best Of" featuring only singles edits was scrapped in favour of Crystal Visions, with the full versions, plus Stevie's FM hits sequenced in. IMO IMO IMO

Agree that "Listen To The Rain" should have been the 1st single as it was meant to be (Atlantic release # and all proves this).

Fine, then how about a very rate edition of Time Space with the official single edits? I'm just saying, as a fan and a collector it would be nice to have the official edits on a CD. I mean really, we have the full versions already and they've been rehashed time and time again, give us something different for a change.

In my opinion, CV just don't flow good at all, and including SS on it totally seems disjointed.

I worked in Gap in 2002 as well! I was there 2001-2006 and the cds were the same in the UK. I totally remember those terrible versions!

By the way, where can I get this remix of Rooms On Fire? Is it on Other Side Of The Mirror?

I think a 3rd release, like a 2-CD The Very Best of Stevie Nicks (similar to the 2002 FM one) could house the single edits.

BTW, I don't "listen" to Crystal Visions; I just uploaded the tracks and make my own Stevie iMixes and Cds, so I was glad to get the new live versions to use however I wanted. Yes, TimeSpace flows better somehow.

However, I will never understand why Stevie's songs with other people "don't flow/don't belong" with her solo work on Collections. PLENTY of other artists have their group and solo hits on combined collections:

Diana Ross
Sting
Tina Turner
Maria McKee

Why should Stevie be any different? She wrote the songs, sings them, just like Sting & Co. "Rhiannon" is not "a Fleetwood Mac song". It's a Stevie Nicks song.

No, it's the TimeSpace remix ~ MUCH BETTER!!!!! The OSOTM mix doesn't compare... IMO.

It was nice to hear Stevie in Gap, but those awful single edits.... EEK!!!!

If it was properly balanced with other Stevie/Mac material then yes, but SS sticks out like a soar thumb on CV, it just doesn't belong there IMO, especially since we already got it on CD on "The Chain" boxed set and the 2002 Best of F Mac.

Chris Lord-Alge did do a fantastic job w. "Rooms On Fire"!! It was so much more of everything. I especially took most notice of the drums and percussion being more prominent, lifting the song out of the doldrums (It's too bad this version wasn't on OSOTM..It may have been a bigger hit...it was that noticeable!) Strangely the song that would seem to gain from the updated remixes (Stand Back), was the only one I didn't care for...It sounded a little too busy...and her vocal had more reverb or echo on it.

And if "Listen To The Rain" had been on TS and released as 1st single...Stevie would have surely hit the stage with it, and promoted it harder. Stevie in the lyrics is basically using "Listen To The Rain" as a stop and smell the roses metaphor, which by releasing a Greatest Hits was what she was doing...."Well your a frontliner.....", this song was about her, and her reflecting on her career! Stevie was pissed about being put against the wall...doing these songs by Bon Jovi & Bret Michaels.

She just seemed to ignore SIAB, except in the press where she talked down on it (the only good thing about this song was the video) I also agree w previous poster that in addition to the obvious it was overproduced. the only new song she ever performed was LAHGTP 1 time on Arsenio Hall.

And CL-A did a great job with "Whole Lotta Trouble", too. The remix really rocks out, especially the drums near the end. Much more dynamic than the OSOTM mix.
