I'm a little behind on this post but I doubt this has been mentioned. My boyfriend Larry has worked with this guy Kenny who knows Les. In 2008 Larry was talking with Kenny and he mentioned he had recently talked to Les and Stevie was either at his house or studio, somewhere with him. But that is all I know. They may have been just hanging out or working on something. Just thought I'd pass that along.

Well as noted on the Rumours board, Mick was just quoted in an interview saying, knowing this bunch (FM), I think we will take the next 18 months off.
So knowing Stevie, she won't be sitting around doing nothing the next year and a half. It's looking likely that these newly written 4 songs with Dave Stewart are the beginning of Stevie laying down some demos/tracks for a solo project!!! I couldn't be more thrilled!!!

I am also happy she is collaborating (esp. with someone new, even though they some history). It's well known that Stevie has suffered from writers block before, which is why Sandy Stewart was brought in on The Wild Heart, The numerous contributors on RAL, & Rupert Hine, Mike Campell, Rick Nowles, etc. on TOSOTM (on which she only had 2 self-penned tracks.) Stevie needs to be re-energized and find a new spark, I suspect that she been looking to Jimmy Iovine & other colleagues for direction (Tom Petty & Heartbreakers enthusiastically just wrapped recordings for a new CD set for release this summer.) Stevie still remains good friends w/ Iovine, and was spotted at the after grammy Interscope party. Jimmy has been wise with his projects at Interscope, pushing artists as diverse as Gwen Sefani, Mary J Blige, Eminem and many others, to lock themselves in a room/studio with great collaborators, songwriters & producers to get the goods.

I am optimistic that Stevie can and will put out a recording that equals or is even better than TISL, but in a totally different way. And I don't mind if it doesn't have a bunch of rockers (as some have expressed their disappointment that "Everybody Loves You" was not rocking a little at all.), the likely hood of her having a huge commercial success is stacked against her, besides the fact that she does not have anything to prove anymore. At this stage in her career & current voice, I feel she has evolved vocally to become the ultimate torch singer...her voice has become a cross between Nina Simone and latter day Marianne Faithful, And I say let her embrace that side. The Soundstage rendition of "Beauty & the Beast" was minimal and beautiful, "Call On Me For Magic" was a side of Stevie we need to see more of.

Stevie just needs to concentrate on putting out a solo project that is worthy of her legend, and forget about trying to please the commercial equivalents of the moment as she did on TISL by tapping Sheryl, Natalie, Macy, Sarah...you get the picture. She needs to produce a solid project that will earn her critical success unparralled. Most fans are behind her & hungry for new material! Stevie is no longer the Rhiannon of years ago, She is older, wiser....and I feel she needs to record something that reflects where she is now. not yesterday.

A few comments:

First of all, I am thrilled that there is something, anything new in the works. It is just refreshing to hear her voice, and speaking of her voice... it sounds really good, but way different than even the Soundstage recordings two years ago. It reminded me of the late 80s, OSOTM Stevie, which is one of my favorite eras, so that is fine by me.

I liked their voices together, and I liked the demo! Didn't love it, but I think it is still haunting and beautiful and sad.

The best part about all of this, is that since Stevie is working with Dave, there is someone else to hold her accountable. Someone else is forcing her to put pen to paper and actually get **** done. I think it is way to easy for Stevie to not do anything concrete or anything that will ever see the light of day. She needs someone to push her. Last time it was a dinner with Tom Petty. This time, it looks like she needs more hand holding, but that is fine.

I can actually see something happening here. It is not just a random comment that we are all getting excited about. We actually have a demo and confirmation that they ARE working on an album, not that they WILL work on an album.

PS: Regarding Too Far From Texas, I love that song. Cheesy country song, yes. But sometimes, that is just what I need to listen to at full blast driving around town while belting out the lyrics! Love me some TFFT!!!!

DAVE STEWART "THE HOUR" WRITING WITH STEVIE NICKS



Dave Stewart was interviewed on Canadian TV show "The Hour" on March 11th. He's in Toronto for Canadian Music Week and he mentions to George that he's currently writing with Stevie Nicks.

It's like raindrops after a long drought to finally hear her do something creative again .I agree with those who think her voice sounds OSOTM era.Also Dave Stewart likely has some similarities to OSOTM producer Rupert Hine in that they both peaked with synth driven Euro-pop production in the 1980s .IMO this song has a vaguely Beatlesque or John Lennon feel to it.It will be great to finally have something to look forward to again if this pans out.It has been too long.

I really do hope this morphs into a solo project... but I have my doubts. My intuition is telling me she's just busy recording and stockpiling demos for the future. I know she's always brimming with creativity when she comes off the road from touring with the Mac. She probably just wants to capture that quickly. Like I said, I truly hope this equates to another solo album... SOON! But my inner realist is prodding me telling me not to get too excited.

The song this reminds me of more then anything is Christine's Did You Ever Love Me from the Penguin album, from the the caribean like music to the almost speaking like male bg vocal.
