I knew as I was writing my post that I was setting myself up for this question. Again, based on the short snippet we've heard, I am encouraged by the quality of her vocal, the harmonizing with DS and the sentiment of the lyric. The three lines we've heard are simply a small indication of what the song as a whole may be like. I am well aware that she still needs to deliver the goods in the form of a finished product. Keep in mind, I didn't say the song is a masterpiece. What I said was I am looking forward to hearing the rest of the song because from what I've heard, I think there is a lot of potential.

For those who said they don't like the instrumentation or DS's vocals or anything specific to the demo, I totally respect that and certainly didn't mean to imply that I had an issue with these critiques. But when you used the words "bland, uninspired, unimpressed and forgettable," I got the impression that you have already dismissed the song as a throwaway. What I was trying to say in my post was I think it is premature to completely write off the song based on the little bit that we've heard.

All I am saying is give ELY a chance.

Though I didn't really like what I heard with this demo, you do bring up a good point. I remember hearing a snippet of "Say You Will" before the album of the same name was released, and thought it was a turd to be flushed too. But the song in it's entirety was a bubbly, cute little song. I totally did a 180 with that. Who's to say us naysayers won't like the full version of "Everybody Loves You?" It's definitely important to remember we're hearing a DEMO, too. Most of Stevie's demos are bland, quiet, slow, wandering, and unexciting. But they absolutely blossom with production (some, not all). We'll just have to see. I for one am glad she's messing with new material, period. If she ends up making an album that's not as good as or better than TISL, I might reverse that position though!

Guess what? You are not alone. I'm encouraged by it too. I think it sounds pretty good. The people who don't like probably want weirder stuff. To me, this is pretty straightforward HONEST stuff. Plus, I like the vocal and the backing music.

Well don't quote me on this but I believe "She Loves Him Still" is Stevie adding lyrics and singing to a Mark Knopfler instrumental track. The (unconfirmed) story goes that Knopfler refused to let Stevie use it in any shape or form so I wouldn't expect a release anytime soon. A shame, that.

Stevie is the author of "She Still Loves Him", lyrics and music. The copyright says so. If the music has Knopfler playing and refuses to allow release, Stevie could always re-record without him. Or edit him off. If he's even on it.

I've never heard "the story" about this being MK's track. Again, Stevie Nicks wrote the music & lyrics. She even quotes herself in Enchanted.
