You know for some reason I was humming that yesterday and thinking about that song. I think the reason why is because of Everybody Loves You.

I was thinking about this as I was posting in the Storms thread. I think it's really powerful when she says "we were frail" and also says "save us." It suggests that the weakness and susceptibility that defined and broke them then, resulted in damage that lives on today. In youth, you can commit one trespass that will haunt you well into middle age. Careless steps become permanent. It's only in the fullness of time that you realize what "irrevocable" means.

We were frail then; save us now. Past is present. I absolutely love it.

I'm glad of these comments because the thought of "She Loves Him Still" has been so insistent in my mind since hearing "Everybody Loves You". The original demo, from what I assume was the Rock A Little sessions, almost sounds as if it could have been recorded by Stevie and Dave. It even most likely dates back to around the time they did first work together circa 1984.

There are many unreleased Stevie songs that I would love to see the light of day, but "She Loves Hims Still" more than any seems like a perfect fit for her and Dave if he were to actually sign on for production duties. I'd love to think that Stevie would have already thought of this but it's also possible she doesn't even remember the demo. It's such a delicate song that I would imagine many producers would dismiss it but somehow, I think Dave would recognise the beauty in it and know exactly how to realise this in the studio. Some subtle guitar work and restrained strings would be ideal so as not to interfere with the fragility of Stevie's vocal.

This really needs to happen.

Based on the number of old demos that have been resurrected many years later to appear on albums, I think she is quite familiar with most of the material she has in the vault. As for She Still Loves Him, remember she teased us by including its lyrics (along with Lady From The Mountain and Watch Chain) in the Enchanted booklet.

Bland? Mediocre? Uninspired? Unimpressed? Forgettable? Any of those working for you?

I think it's quite unfair to be so critical of a song when all we have is a 39 second snippet of a home recorded demo featuring three lines of a work in progress.

For the tiny little bit of the song that we have heard, I think:

1. She sounds great
2. It's wonderful to hear her singing with someone different (and their voices do blend so well together)
3. The lyrics are quite tragic and very telling about the price of fame for her...the fact that as famous as she is (i.e everybody loves her/knows her name) she does seem very lonely and terribly dependent on the people who take care of her every need (i.e. she can't find her way home), and all of these people who "love" her (fans/caretakers/staff), none of them really know her. The song reminds me a little of Doing The Best That I Can in the sense that it is a very open and direct admission that there is "trouble in shangri-la."

So I can not wait to hear the rest of the song because from what we've heard so far I think it is going to be a refreshingly new sound for her as well as a heartbreakingly honest and revealing piece of poetry.

And if it was in fact inspired by Lindsey's "everybody loves Stevie" comment, it will be one more example how she can take a simple statement and craft it into a deep and personal song that so many others can relate to.

So let's cut her some slack and not tear apart this tiny snippet of a demo.

I'm glad others have recognized this. That is my one major gripe about Stevie's lyrics. Some of her confusing lines/verses could be more impactful and accessible if she was more aware of this. It's a glaring weakness in some of her songs.

Explain to me how it could be that those who have expressed dislike or apathy to the song are being "unfair" because they have heard only 39 seconds of it, yet your opinion that it is good is valid. That's more than a tad hypocritical. You've heard the same 39 seconds the rest of us have.
