Just listened to this version again... wow, I forgot how emotional this song is!
Regarding the "dubbed" guitar part - I can only make out Lindsey's guitar, however, Christine is playing a keyboard throughout the entire song which sounds very similar to a second guitar. |

It's a very different live version, though I love the Dance version, specially when I saw the video, and the Lindsey-Stevie chemistry.
But the Live album version is great, too. And yes, she dedicated it to London.

The FM Live version of Landslide is always my favorite. I've always had a great love for singers who chose emotion over perfect pitch, such as Nico and Liz Phair (not counting her last album). When I sing this at karaoke or in my car I always sing the melody a lot closer to this one than the album version, throwing a little of Smashing Pumpkin's grit vocal into it as well. I really love it.

I think she says old london. Anyway. This is the only version of Landslide that can make me cry. Sooooo emotional. Stevie sounds so broken
However I love it.![]() Mick

I always thought so too, except I thought she said "Linden"...as a alternate nickname for Lindsey.

I LOVE this version! It's so tragically underrated in my opinion. The 1997 live version will always be the "definitive" version of the song to me (and most, I think), but the 1980 "Live" version really is on a whole 'nother level. It's a shame because this version is so under-the-radar, I never hear it anywhere. I feel like only a hardcore FM fan would have heard it. The Tusk Tour performances of this song in general are my favorite.
If I had to rank the "official" (released) versions, it would go 1. Live (1980) -- Such a haunting, emotionally-charged version. I'd give anything to have been in the audience that night. 2. The Dance -- Will always be the definitive version and the one I first heard and fell in love with. Who could -not- love this? 3. Live in Boston. -- It sounds similar to The Dance version, but it's been a while since I've given this one a listen. 4. Crystal Visions (Melbourne Symphony) -- Stevie sounds great in it but I'm unsure how I feel about the symphony playing in the background. 5. Original studio version -- I feel so guilty ranking this one last since it started it all, but it really is a song meant to be performed live. |
